You may have a point, entertainment and theaters is one of the first things people cut from budgets. Especially if it's not a hyped up movie and it's available in a month or so on streaming.

That's why Avatar became the highest grossing film of all time when we were in the eye of the great recession?

Yea it's a futures ETF. As far as ETF's go it's pretty volatile but if you want real high risk, high reward then buy some penny stocks. You could double or lose it all in one day ;)

The fact someone new to investing is asking about investing in UVXY has to be one of the biggest sell signals I have ever seen. This crash is going to be insane.

    Ah that makes sense.

In terms of being financially literate, I can't say that I am. Though I'm optomistic, maybe the most optomistic person you've ever met. I believe if anything goes wrong I'll find myself doing what I need to.

    A good enough outlook.

I posted about this 6 months ago and again before that ~12 months prior in a post but I believe it was removed for whatever reason.

I'd recommend basic research into MMT and Bonds (esp. Treasury bonds) and the difference between value and price.

whats hiking interest rates mean for Avatar? (what even is hiking interest rate)

The central banks are going to catalyse a long overdue recession. Currently things are weird and not entirely clear as we're in a unique situation BUT if history rhymes (as it often does) we get a short term drop of the EURO/GBP against USD which is good for Avatar's box office.

Longer term and for people, it's worse but honestly? As I've said before, anyone who follows the box office should be financially literate enough to avoid the more damaging impacts of these kinds of economic conditions. If anything they should be prime to benefit!

December is looking really empty right now. Ignoring Rogue Squadron (which will obviously be removed eventually), the biggest movie set to come out on paper is...Wonka? The month needs a stronger anchor. Moving Oppenheimer to the holidays would be a pretty good idea.

    Avatar 3 will fit nicely.

I don't think it's fair to put Avatar on that list with other franchises right now, since we haven't even seen the performance of the sequel yet. For all we know, 2 and 3 could bomb or have very middling performances. I'll wait to see how the sequel does before I say anything about the power of the franchise

The second A2 makes a single dollar it becomes the highest grossing franchise of all time by movie average.

You know if its on our highend domestically and just a nice percentage of fans who saw Titanic, Avatar, T2 or Aliens all flock

this one... We are looking at 1.1-1.2 billion domestic or better. This is absurd potential domestically even in these conditions.

I mean so many fans are alive who experienced both the ultimate BO monster in one run king Titanic and the new modern king of the hill Camerons own followup  Juggernaut 2009!!

Will they show up and return for what is sure to be groundbreaking cinemactic event. :) I think this could happen, keeping fingers crossed.

Cal you're an eternal shining light in these dark and muddy waters.

Bro, what even is this take. Italy is the 4th economy in europe and you're talking about "oh just let it collapse". Those countries are not Greece and if you think the EU can function on the terms you're thinking you are out of your mind.

I'm not saying the EU can function on those terms at all. I'm saying that if some of the EU bloc wants to continue to function then it's going to have to make hard choices. I'd say the same to you - if you think the EU can survive propping up those economies (we both know which ones) then you're just as mad. It's a catch 22 situation.
