This right here is the core of the whole issue. There is really nothing to show that they gain or lose a single subscriber if they release it at Day 45 or Day 90 where it will remain literally forever.
The core question is "What in the hell is the rush?"
I can tell you this, there is no evidence that streaming is impacted (over what is lost) by putting it on there after 45 days vs. 90 days or 120 days.
There is a mountain of evidence that actual billions have been lost by shoving them on streaming too early. It cost the leadership of an entire company (Warner Bros.) their jobs and likely is going to cost the leadership of Disney their jobs as well. I also would guess the leadership of Paramount+ is going to feel the heat very soon if the guy they brought in doesn' reverse course. Lucky for him that Tom Cruise likely did him a favor and saved his job.
Well said. The studios are acting in a stupid manner and should be called out for it.

Oh, well then if you only care about the objective truth then Avatar only has the 22nd best second weekend drop.
That's more like it. I wouldn't have bat an eye at anyone saying TGS had the greatest second weekend.

Giant wall of cope.
Avatar had a -1.8% drop. Simple as. Objectively superior to the drop of TGM. I'm very happy it's doing this well - in fact I was in the club that said it would do better than MCU 28.
You're starting to sound more like Dud Wang now. Maybe you've been reading too many of his posts.

Honest box office analysis and not mental gymnastics would be great.

Seeing people do mental gymnastics in the weekend thread to try and downplay Avatar's success makes me laugh. I wonder what new mental tricks we'll see for trying to underplay A2 doing billies.

It's pretty rare at least in my recollection, is that a film is completely beloved by moving hours has a massive rotten tomatoes score and even has most people here loving it. I know there's lots of other films that can claim this but this movie just seems like it's being embraced by everybody. Old fogies like me are loving it my 12-year-old niece adored it and the 20 and 30-year-olds are loving it as well. It's awesome to see how this movie has just allowed everyone to just fall over with it.
Baumer! You're alive. Good to see you posting.

Tom Cruise is going to make $100M-plus from this movie.
Deserved. Funnily enough Jim made 350M for Avatar.

No one talks about Top Gun any more. Who asked for Top Gun 2?
WoM reminding everyone of its power.
-
I went to see it due to the memes. If you go in watching it as a terrible film it's actually fun.

I needed like a month to recover from that.
But in hindsight, my meltdown at that time was a bit silly. I loved the movie, ive seen it like 50 times since it came out and we still got a quasi-sequel with Godzilla vs Kong. This is still the best timeline for Godzilla fans.
But im honest 350M for DOM would mean Meltdown and im serious that number would be so low regarding the massive inflation that occured since 2018, i woudnt survive that without mental damage

Actually, there were issues on Pirates 6 with Depp showing up for work hungover and unable to work.

I'm obviously biased, but that really is a brilliant teaser. Probably my second favorite of all time behind the one for Nightcrawler.

Is there anything sadder than seeing someone over the age of 30 working at a movie theatre?

Even with this case verdict, Depp already said he has no interest in working with Disney again, so at this point, any prospective sequel with him involved is pretty much dead in the water.
Do you really not know how negotiations work? He says he will never do it again it means that he can get more when it comes to them making an offer.

From the polls scattered around seems the court of public opinion is also in agreement with the Jury. I think AH should have picked a different set of Lawyers.

Yep and POTC is past expiration day. POTC 6 is gonna flop no matter who stars in it. The franchise is run into the ground. There's nothing more to say. They should have stoped after the third movie. It was Gore Verbinski's baby. No one else got it right.
Agree with everything you said except it being a flop. I think it would make substantial money IF Bloom/Knightley returned and they focused on them. They could even make them have a daughter/son and make Sparrow the supporting character IF they really wanted to save it.
Also the notion that Hollywood is above employing people with less than stellar backgrounds is patently false. The propaganda machine knows no end. Tom Cruise actively and openly bankrolls an organisation that is recorded to keep people as slaves - you really think they won't welcome Depp back with open arms? Don't be naïve.

These proclamations of "Pirates 6 with Depp would be huge" remind me of the "Matrix 4 will be massive" predictions that went around when it was first announced. Some franchises are just past their expiration date.
Average gross of Matrix movies is what? 450M? Pirates is probably double that.

Yeah, if they get Bloom and Knightly to return it's a no brainer.

Pirates 6 with Depp would definitely make money
They just had the biggest marketing campaign they could wish for. Of course it's going to make money and you can bet Depp is going to be back for it.

Justice served whether you agree with the verdict or not. Massive case for defamation in the US. Broader cultural impact too on female on male domestic violence. This is just the start for both of them.

we are going into a recession
I think we're currently in one the numbers are just being fudged. When the real drop comes it's gonna be bad.

At this point, these sky-high ticket prices will scare away many people from watching movies in theaters. And in many other cases, it will make people choose now between the movie(s) they can afford to see in a month. Could be that Top Gun breaking out so much will cause Dominion to suffer because of it and then Lightyear could suffer from the family crowd maybe choosing between it and Dominion.
We're already seeing a consumer collapse - look at Amazon's latest results as one major indicator. We'll see higher peaks, lower troughs.
The stage is set.

If this can manage a sub 50% second weekend drop after it’s boosted day to day numbers last weekend I think we really might be in for a hell of a run here
I'm hoping so. Not had excitement like this for a run in years.
