Just what I want to see as I'm sitting in the theater, haha. Hopefully it lives up to my expectations.
I'm sorry! I very much wanted to love it, but it never works for me. I'm sure you'll think differently. Most do.
-
There were so many great parts to this, but it could never tie them together. Del Toro is evil. No way around that.
Cish? 6/10?
-
Wow. This was sort of a mess. Lots of great parts but could never come together and be great.

Maybe don't bring you're toddler to Sicario for so many reasons?!?
-
Wait until it gets nominated for Best Picture anyway
I'm always mystified at how much The Academy likes him.
-
Freeheld is really an epic flop.
Double featuring The Martian and Sicario today!
-
Cartoons go in the animated category, no?
They can get BP noms too. A few have in the expanded category.

Me thinks:
Bridge of Spies
Brooklyn
Carol
The Danish Girl
Joy
Mad Max: Fury Road
The Revenant
Spotlight
Steve Jobs
--------------------------------
The Hateful Eight
Room
Yeah. I like this line-up a lot. It just needs Inside Out!
-
What if Spielberg got in here and not best picture? The fifth spot seems so wide open and Boyle is a weak filler. Nemes or Miller would be such inspired choices and something only the director branch would be capable of doing.
-
Scott's not getting nominated for THE MARTIAN.
Thank you. Voice of reason.
-
lol does anyone even remember Interstellar a year out?
-
It isn't a symphony. It is a suite.
Williams took a lot of inspiration from Mars I think.

Kate Winslet's 7th Oscar nomination is now all but guaranteed. In the age of people being inexplicably impressed by everything the mediocre Jennifer Lawrence does (she likes pizza! oh so relatable!) it's important to remember actors who are actually good!
^her fake, unbearable tumblr-pandering persona
lol I love Kate but girl is pretty damn basic. Lawerence is great even thought I'm not sure I buy into her stick.
Both are getting nominated though.

He should. Ethan should really get into Ingmar Bergman's movies.
Everyone should though!

Extremely Hard and Incredible Close, The Help and War Horse would like to have a word with you.So you're one of those 2010's Best Picture lineup was really strong even if the winner was average.
lol fuck me. I just bashed the year I thought I liked. We are talking about 2010.
Yes, the selection was good, but nothing was really excellent besides The Socail Network. I don't get Winter's Bone, but it is probably the second best of that year followed by Toy Story 3 then Inception.
-
2010 might be the best year this decade so far IMO. 2011 is a really weak year, 2012 has a good mix of blockbusters and dramas, 2013 has great Oscar movies but is somewhat lacking in blockbusters, and 2014 had great blockbusters and a decent slate of Oscar movies. 2010 had the perfect blend.
I don't particularly care about blockbusters I guess. The Oscar slate is weak. I'm not high on Black Swan though and I don't think The King's Speech holds up as well as it could. Meanwhile I really enjoyed 2011: Hugo, The Artist, <3 Tree of Life <3, Moneyball and A Seperation
-
Both of them are out of the country right now.
-
The Social Network is probably the best American film of 2010. It was a weak year though.
-
Are we talking Top 10 since 2005? I can't get behind that. Maybe Top 30!
-
You both need to see more movies.

You saw this film?
Yeah. World premiered at TIFF. Hiddleston is great, Olsen is fantastic, the film is terrible.
-
Hiddleston is great in this though.
-
The accent was perfect honestly.

The Martian (2015)
in Review That Movie! (Spoilers Allowed)
Posted
I felt there were some pacing problems. The first act needed to be about 15 minutes longer.
My reactionary tweet actually sums up how I feel very well.
@TannerStechnij: THE MARTIAN: A nice, average movie elevated to near perfection with levity and a sense of hope. Takes no risks but, ultimately, that's fine.
