My review is mostly negative, but I love it.

Well, DOR fatigue is warranted. His aggressively dysfunctional family routine is starting to get old
There are much worse cinematic sins haha.
I'll go to my death defending Joy though. It just deserves to be seen and a lot of my cinephile friends agree with me.
And Oscar Bait is so reductive. The Oscars don't tend to nominate women lead biopics that preach women empowerment and combine the storytelling techniques of fairlytales and soap operas.
/end rant.

lol Joy is rotten. Failed Oscar bait.
Not really Oscar bait at all. It is great and a departure from a lot of narrative techniques. The critical backlash is totally unwarranted and only exists because of A. DOR fatigue and B. A flippant, fairytaleish plot with archetypal characters that is totally intentional but wrongly accused of being "messy."
It is great.

Eh, they're about the same. Different strengths, same weaknesses.
At least Birdman was a departure from the rest of his filmography.

looks solid but tarantino isnt critic friendly. hence a bit lower RT. a bit excessive violence.
Tarantino is definitely critic friendly. You can like a movie with a bad RT score and not make excuses for it. It has a great runtime!

So happy to see the reception for this go south. Tarantino needs to do something else. It also goes to show how important a strong and pushy editor is when it comes to his work. Django is an overlong, indulgent disaster and this sounds like a longer, more indulgent disaster. So not for me despite the fact I'm going this weekend. Wish me luck.
This and The Revenant are going to be flops. I don't see how The Recenant comes out on top though-- this will have a bigger audience surely.

This can't have two Monday's over 40... Can it?

We can have another weekend over $300 million!

Why would Inside Out happen? No campaign has been made for it and it has already been forgotten critically. It isn't in the top ten....
Also, Star Wars isn't locked. No one is predicting it except Gold Derby who has it in tenth which 98% wouldn't equal a nom.
Also, Spotlight keeps winning critics groups but all I hear about is how Carol and Mad Max are winning them. Kind of weird.

Guys, I think I might have been the first person to say 1bil domestic seriously and stick to it. I need to find that post because everyone called me crazy and now it could actually happen!

Seriously? With the dismal, seemingly endless section about some fucking birds? Half the audience walked out during Part 3, I was fuming too.
Really? Did you sem them all back to back? It is gorgeous and so meditative and soothing. An absolutely perfect end. Calling any part of a six and a half hour film "endless" seems so reductive when a large part of Arabian Night's is its length. It isn't supposed to be an easy watch.

Any top list without Anomalisa on it for this year isn't even a list.
Charlie Kaufman is far and away the most talented screenwriter and auteur working on film today.
Other than that, I've been really disappointed by South Korea, Sweden, Germany and France this year. Nothing remarkable when normally my list is dominated by foreign films :/Oh well. For right now in no particular order I'd go: Anomalisa, Creed, TFA, Kingsmen, It Follows, Ex Machina, Fury Road, Bridge Of Spies, Going Clear, Room.
Have you seen Anomalisa? It is a mess and Kaufman's worst work.

Would love to see Ex Machina, It Follows, and What We Do In The Shadows get more attention.
There are much more worthy early year films.

09. Taxi
10. Magic Mike XXL -
This isn't like any other Leo performance though. Like Tele said, it is so deglam.
And GA won't like it. I expect poor word of mouth.

This is such a great film. The critic's agendas are showing.

I could see this making less than 40mil.

Well, if you don't like Hardy this won't be the movie to convince you otherwise.
You're right, it's not very open-ended.
Hidden Content
Yup. He wanted to provide some thematic material and still direct his big duel. That's how I felt about the whole entire movie though.
I love arthouse, pensive, longing films, but this just felt so indulgent.
Does anyone think this is going to make money? It is probably going to be one of the biggest flops of the year.

It isn't that good. The second act is a total disaster with little development and I have a ton of reservations about all of the retreading. That doesn't change the fact that it makes me feel good and for two hours and fifteen minutes I get to see a Star Wars movie.
