Thanks for all your work. Without someone doing (possibly tedious) work behind the scene, we wouldn't have a game to play.

This is an excellent idea! I was looking at my schedule for the year and there's at least 3 weekends where making predictions might be challenging for various reasons. This gives frequent players who miss a week here and there something to play for, as well. Unlike professional sports, there are no off-days or bye weeks in the Derby so I extend a sincere 'thank-you' for making this opportunity available to us.

I saw two interesting picks this week on the leaderboard
@Rolling Thunder with 5m on zoo. Jungle crash or mistake?
Not a mistake but obviously overlooked Zooptopia having double-feature drive-ins this weekend. Also, you never know when Disney is going to do that notorious number shift game, which clearly happened here. Muppets Most Wanted & Mr. Peabody & Sherman both dropped 63% against the much lower profile Rio 2 in April 2014.

Challenging week ahead - it's a Jungle out there!

Of course I find the win column after I'm eliminated from the tournament . But hey, I'll take it - appreciate the congrats...onto the next!

At the country club again, a couple weeks earlier than expected. Can anyone recommend a mixed drink to erase the memory of another
pitiful Tournament exit?

Congrats on pulling off the upset, PanaMovie.

So this guy walks up to the box office, his girlfriend asks them what 'Meet The Blacks' is about, and hears, "It's kinda like Sanford & Son." These 20-somethings have probably never heard of that show but say "cool" and walk off with their two tickets. All rather amusing - at least they didn't pick Divergent.
-
DL rushing to press again - notice Variety is taking their time. DL using a preview to Friday multiplier of 5 for both openers, which is conservative. More likely they go up than down.
I still see Batman coming in under $55m this weekend, with a Friday around $16-16.5m.

My Derby is dead.
Not necessarily. Looks like the GND2 average is going to be close to $10m, if not more. Will be a terrible score for most.

GND2 generated tremendous online activity but I'm thinking it was inflated from 1) fans of the first movie and 2) the phrase itself, which is among the most popular Easter phrases. Sales at my theater were modest and I'm not all that surprised with the preview number. Would be great for PureFlix to see it have great legs, though.
Meet The Blacks should have been direct to DVD but there's generally a small segment of the underserved demographic to make a pointless release viable.

Oh man - Ash Skywalker didn't get his in, either, eliminating any chance of upsetting JohnnY this weekend.

I didn't want to include it with such a small wide opening but with 2 movies last week under 1 million I figured I might as well
It's getting at least 1,000 theaters so worth tossing in there. Not likely to be a breakout but these kind of openers have provided more than one pie in the face over the years.

A film that nobody cares (and possibly know) about is going to be a high impact pick this weekend. Have no desire to 'Meet The Blacks' but have to figure them out anyway.

How 'bout that Bozly v. Simionski match-up this week? That's what I call prime-time excitement!
Wildbill also taking on the #3 seed, 8wombi7. Two battle-tested pros slugging it out there!
And jj99 catching a fire and showing he probably won't be a #42 seed next time!
-
Absolutely incredible score, Simionski! A major congrats to you!
What needs to be done to get us back to 100+ players every week? B vs. S was a huge release and I thought we'd hit triple digit participation. At least we have some new players (welcome aboard) and maybe the slate of summer films will spark interest.

Thanks for posting the prediction averages so quickly.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a Wednesday opener have Wed/Thurs rolled into the Fri-Sun numbers...
Yeah, highly doubtful that will happen. Fri-Sun. will be reported with the 5-day gross reflected in the total.

So depending on what B.O. com does it's either a 3 day or 5 day prediction?
99% chance BO.com will report the 3-day weekend (but they could always use BOM's numbers).

Alright, here we go again - maybe my golf clubs can stay in the closet a little longer this time. Everyone dust yourself off and bring your A-game...we have a defending champion to track down!

This is going to be one ugly week for most. Thanks a lot, Sacha.

I was torn on one prediction so I wrote down two different guesses on pieces of paper and cranked on my desk fan. I literally went with the first one that landed face up.
So, quite literally, one of these was a breeze to predict.

Tracking all over the place for Cloverfield. Official ranges I've seen are from $19-35m. Should be a notable factor this week.
