  1. That's all JW did overseas this weekend? I was hoping it would be at $1.5B today...oh well. $1B is off the table, it'll only do $25M-$30M in Japan.

It was at 854m until this thursday. It's very unrealistic to expect it to gross more than its last weekends gross. It got 43.3m last week, so how would it gross more than $50m this weekend? It's still earning millions per day internationally so 900m+ before Japan is very much possible.

  2. That's closer to the truth than the BOM chart for sure, but some of it seems inconsistent too.

Well that's arguable since it's difficult to know which is actually more accurate these days. In any case though, I think it's just better to count the cash nowadays. In the end it all comes down to money and sooner or later people are going to watch those movies anyway be it in the theatre, their homes, and such.

  3. The closest we've seen was over 43 million tickets behind Titanic (the equivalent of Furious 7 or American Sniper's entire run by the way).

Phantom Menace most hyped movie of all-time and reached 85m tickets. Question is could it have possibly done better? Some would say yes since there is a lot of bad WOM these days on that movie, but you look at the legs and they were phenomenal...seemed to have strong WOM in 1999.

Didn't Jurassic Park get a bit close to 90m? It sold higher than the Phantom Menace.

  4. It made 600, not 658. Titanic's original run sold 128 million tickets. JP4 will end up around 70 million, which is nearly 60 million tickets behind Titanic's original run. The two are not even in the same ballpark and it's kinda silly to even mention them together, lol. We'll never see another Titanic run to 125m+ admissions IMHO.

    JP4 should come close to 80m admissions(BOM).

  5. Not so sure we can directly compare JP4 to TA1's late run. Disney re-expanded it when the film was already just about dead at $618m. They put it in over 1,700 theaters and it made another $5m. I doubt Universal will do the same thing, so JP4 would need even stronger holds to have the same kind of multi the rest of the way as TA1.

Does Legendary have any kind of influence to JW's run? They almost always extend their movies' run so if they can then they will most likely do the same for JW, even if it's lower than TA's 1700 additional screens.

  6. That's taking for granted that Japan will deliver close to 100m. I'm not sure it's gonna be anywhere near that.

It should reach near 1b even without Japan. It's already at $854m+ internationally and that's only through thursday of this week. It's still doing great business internationally and I don't think it will stop earning millions per day until August.

  7. As a self proclaimed box office expert Rth, where do you see JW ending Domestic??? It just seems like it's at 565M Domestic and TA is at 623M and I'm sure screens will be falling as well and not close enough to catch it..

It will pass TA in 2 weeks. It will be at 590m+ after this week and then 610+m next week and then go past 623m after that.

  8. The top critics are destroying MINIONS, now with 42%. Anyway, the best part of the movie was

    G R U.

Well the movie isn't anything special at all. It's cute and that's it. All the best parts are pretty much all the scenes they showed in the trailers. DM1 and DM2 are way better in every way.

  9. Gravity for me. Not a big fan of 3D. Haven't watched JW yet. Is it a 3D must?

Nope, but it looks good on Imax. But if you don't want to spend the extra money then 2D is fine. It's a really fun summer movie. Personally it's the most fun popcorn flick out there right now.

  10. There was an error from some OS BO source where the OS cume was reported as $1.169 billion instead of $1.160 billion, I am pretty sure it was a typo. BOM had the info for less than 24 hours, then they corrected it back. Universal has the $1.160b OS total.

Which is more reliable btw, The numbers or BOM? The numbers seem to show more BO info including dvd/bluray sales and even updates international gross every day and not the just weekends.

  11. Really? They didn't make sure that F7 beat Avengers WW, I don't see why they'd make the effort here.

F7 did beat Avengers ww. BOM has outdated numbers. It's at 1,520,593,707. If you're talking about domestic, then Universal won't be able to do anything there. There was 0% for it to beat Avengers domestically.
