It's interesting how different people can read something and get a completely different take on it. The script I read was not a comedy. A romance, yes, but not a comedy. Of course, I first read it when Keanu Reeves was still attached to it, so maybe that's why. Here are the director's thoughts on the matter:

I have another site that gives the number 1 movies on any date going back to 1912. The selections appear to be legit as far as I can tell from the limited sample I tested, so I thought I'd mention it. It's easier than looking all over wikipedia anyway:
