I don't know... the fact that its holding up so well into the week during Christmas week pretty much shows that its not just the hype. The critics agree. The audiences agree.

Think what you will about the movie but doesn't change the fact that its been critically acclaimed and is loved by the general movie-going audience.

You come off a bit sour... I guess seeing Jurassic World go down and the impending fall of Avatar has made you so.

Avatar has great reviews too, doesn't stop SW fans from crapping on it every chance given. Guess you can say I'm a bit sour -_- Don't get the love for this movie. I'm not a hater though, I love the original trilogy and the prequels were good.  Those movies do everything better than this one. Once this movie passes, people will start to realize why it's not that good. Oh, btw, that's not happening WW.

I'm surprised this board puts up with this kind of garbage poster who is clearly a troll that only posts on one subject.

You seem upset, that's just too bad. I'm a troll because you don't like what I say?Learn some tolerance. I'm a JW and Avatar fan and you don't see me going after everyone crapping on those films in this thread lol. Just calling it like I see it, the movie was nothing special. It'll make a lot of money just because it follows ROTJ. Rey was a crap protagonist, and Ren was an even worse villain. Fanboys deserve them though going broke watching this 20 times just to put the movie over Avatar.

45m Wednesday confirmed. Lock in $2 billion.

At what point does this movie slow down. Are the same people seeing it multiples times or what? Don't understand why it's doing this well during Christmas. It's like people are forgetting about the holidays. The movie is decent, but not amazing or anything groundbreaking. It's basically ANH repackaged. Just pure hype.

That number would put it at nearly $550 million in only 10 days! If it hits that then $700 million by the end of January 3rd seems all but locked. Crazy to think it would hit $700 million in the amount of time Jurassic World hit $500 million!!

    :ohmyzod:

Not really. Even though the movie has massive flaws, it was guaranteed to be big just because it follows Episode 6. Without the Star Wars name though, people would recognize it for the garbage that it is.

Some movies get a better reputation over time and other films get a worse one.

What do you guys think will happen with TFA?

People will realize how much a piece of tripe this movie was. They'll also realize how weak a villain David Schwimmer...... I mean Kylo Ren was. The final lightsaber scene was a joke. Villains are supposed to appear strong, otherwise, what's the threat? Rey took him out by "thinking" of the force. Who needs training. Not to mention the story is a rehash of ANH. At this point, the movie is making a lot of money because it's a sequel to ROTJ. Diehard fanboys  are watching it 6-7 times, etc.

  6. I don't get why this movie is basically getting no backlash. I get that Kylo isn't supposed to be Vader, but he can still be strong without being Vader. Why have him look so weak. Just everything about Kylo under the mask is cringeworthy. He looks like David Schwimmer from Friends ,his voice is horrible. They overexposed him and way too fast. Did anyone else cringe at how casually he revealed his face to Rey? When he put it back on and tried to be a badass again, I couldn't buy it. I also found Rey hollow as a protagonist.

I get that Ren is not a Sith Lord but he was trained by Luke and got partial training from his master.  I don't buy that Rey can just think of the Force and beat him with no training. It was her 1st time swinging a lightsaber. Luke and Anakin had to train to take people out like that. If this didn't have the Star Wars name, I doubt fans would damage control all the problems with this movie. Funny that people have the nerve to crap on Avatar on JW

Gitesh is saying around 35-37 I think

Sources tell me MON heading to mid 30s for . All-time high for a MON. Cume would surge to about $285M.

    Its an epic number

The movie doesn't deserve it, way overrated. Good  movie but not amazing like die hards make it out to be. Kylo was a shit villain in my opinion.

    But they're so intimidating, CJohn

We need more one-dimensional, intimidating villains

Tired of these newfangled villains who are layered opposites to our heroes rather than video game obstacles

No one is saying he should've been one dimensional. We're just saying he didn't have to show his face during the middle  of the movie. Not to mention his unmasking was so casual, I actually cringed. He looks goofy and weak. Couldn't take him seriously when he put the mask back on and continued with the amped voice. Not to mention he lost badly to a protagonist that just swung a  lightsaber for the 1st time. Don't see how anyone can defend this.

Two of my favorite parts of the movies:

The fact the Kylo was a damaged, conflicted, imperfect villain.  To try follow up what in many people's opinion is the greatest villain of all time (Vader) with a clone you will fail.   His development was and is going to be riveting.

Loved the lightsaber duel.  Part of me was waiting for Luke to show up-especially with the close up of the saber.  But it was better with Rey overwhelming Kylo.

And as far as how could Rey defeat Kylo?  It's clear she already has amazing fighting skills, she's tapping into and "letting in" the force.  Kylo is not fully trained and was shot by Chewie.  It's not a stretch at all.

Kylo leads an entire force of storm troopers. I don't think it's  reaching to assume he should be a LOT stronger than a girl with a staff who took out some storm troooers. A good villain is shown as something to overcome. They shouldn't be taken out like nothing in their  first appearance.

Sorry but Kylo was a great villain, and no, I don't need to come to my senses.

He he isn't meant to be Vader. That's the point. He WANTS to be Vader but he isn't. He's insecure and afraid that he's not going to be all that he can be because he still feels the pull of the light side. That's why he kills his father. He thinks it will erase all desire to turn back to the light side.

Also, his outburst when things don't go his way we're great. It shows just how young, immature and impatient he is.

As for the fight against Rey:

    1. He isn't a fully trained Sith! He isn't even close to being a Sith Lord. He's basically a dark side version of a Padawan learner who still has a lot to learn.

    2. He was shot straight to the gut by Chewie. It was hindering his ability. You could especially see it during the early part against Finn. He kept hitting himself at the spot where he got shot. It was bugging him.

    3. He completely underestimates Rey because he has no idea how strong she is in the Force; which she clearly is. And she obviously has some fighting ability as evidenced by her taking out those guys in the early part of the movie with her staff. And don't forget, she was losing the fight until she calmed herself and let the force in.

Aldo, don't think I didn't have some problems with the movie. I did. They just weren't bad enough to dampen my immense enjoyment of it.

If he's not meant to be Vader, then he should lose the mask. I cringed when he put the mask back on and talked with the amped voice after seeing what was under there. It just didn't work anymore.

I wonder if that has anything to do with him literally being an underling in the movie

He shouldn't of been such an underling that he lost to someone that just picked up a lightsaber. He seems like a joke now. Will lose faith in humanity if this beats Avatar. I enjoyed JW more as well. I enjoyed this movie, but it doesn't deserve 95 on RT and the huge OW it recieved imo.

Yeah, I don't understand complaints about him at all.  He was a very fleshed out character and Adam Driver did a great job.  I rarely see villains as well-crafted as he was.  Even if you compare him to Vader, Vader in a New Hope isn't nearly as fleshed out as Kylo.  It took 3 movies (or 6 even) and so much expanded universe stuff to make him as complex as he is today.

The Force Awakens did a better job with Kylo (for a single movie basis), then A New Hope did with Vader.  However to be fair, ESB is what really made Vader great.  I'm eager to see how he grows.

For me, I have no more interest in him. Seeing his face so soon ruined his aura. Hard to take him seriously now. There's no mystery to him now and he seemed like such an underling.  I mean he got his ass kicked by someone who just picked up a lightsaber. You diehard fans will come to your senses after the hype dies down.

You know, due to the prequels, Star Wars had become nearly as infamous as it is famous. To overcome the negativity is simply astounding to me. Avatar was working with a clean slate and it hit the 3D zeitgeist. TFA represents a comeback of epic proportions, restoring SW as the king of all movie franchises. Let's cease any debates over what will be the bigger accomplishment between the two box office behemoths.

When TFA passes Avatar it will regain the throne the franchise so richly deserves.

Maybe for Domestic, WW is not happening.
