  2. maybe little off topic, but wow, finaly specs for Blu-ray 4K,
please point me to correct thread if not here

Ultra HD Blu-ray will employ High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC – also known as H.265), which is the successor to H.264/MPEG-4 AVC and is considered the most efficient video compression standard available. Given that 4K video content requires much greater data space than existing 1080p, Ultra HD Blu-ray Discs will be produced in two configurations: 66GB dual-layer and 100GB triple-layer. Dan and Ron tell me that the goal in creating the Ultra HD Blu-ray spec extension is to future-proof the format, by including higher video frame rates (up to 60p), 10-bit color, a wider color gamut (up to Rec.2020 or BT.2020), and High Dynamic Range (HDR).

  3. The problem with stuff like the higher framerates is that we don't get to experience them at home so you can't get the same experience that you had in the cinema. I mean does anyone know why we never got the 48fps versions of The Hobbit films on Blu-Ray?, can standard Blu-Ray players not run films at those higher framerates?.

hmmm I am sure we will get it sometime in near future, possible with new 4K players..and they want to get as many people as they can to the cinema :) and later they will sell it on blu-ray 48fps, or another new format :)but I could be wrong...

  4. http://www.animationmagazine.net/features/the-hobbit-passes-the-500-million-benchmark/

Warner Bros. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has surpassed the $500 million benchmark at the worldwide box office in less than two weeks at the box office. To date, the blockbuster has earned an estimated $189.73 million domestically. In addition, on the heels of its record-breaking release in Australia — the biggest Boxing Day opening of all time — The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has grossed an estimated $373 million internationally, for a staggering global total of $562.8 million, and still steadily climbing.

  5. So what did Prometheus end up selling? Why is Home Video reporting such a god damn clusterfuck? You would think studios would want that reported just as prominently as box office considering it's one of their biggest cash cows.

I was tracking DVD sales for long time, and it was never ever some SOLID source for data, it's much much better now compare to what was few years ago, when I had a big thread on BoxOfficeMojo.we are lucky to have at least those crazy numbers from numbers.com :)Marek
