"The effects are jaw-dropping, but Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt's chemistry could make Passengers the sci-fi blockbuster to beat in 2016"
I didn't realise they was even much competition in that genre (X-Men and SW don't count).
I messed up posting that link. I just went back and fixed it. The same article says:
QuoteBased on the extremely early first look provided at CinemaCon Tuesday night, Passengers should join Rogue One: A Star Wars Story as two of the must see films of the holiday season.
and
QuotePratt then attempts to punctuate the bit by dropping his microphone. Unfortunately it misses the floor and lands somewhere else.
“Ow, you dropped it on my foot!” laughs Lawrence.
And at that point, after the laughter died down slightly, it was evident to everyone in the auditorium that after Passengers everyone is going to want Lawrence and Pratt to star in another movie together. Sony’s competitors are no doubt standing by ready to write the cheque.

Believe the budget was rumored to be 120m.
That is what I have heard as well, but I'm wondering if they might not end up putting a bit more money into the effects, even, now that they know (are confident) they have a winner on their hands.
Sony apparently made it clear when they presented the clip to an international event in (I think) Russia, that this is their big picture of the year, or words to that effect. So I am cautiously hopeful. But I don't want to get my hopes up too far. Telegraph saying this and Rogue One are the destination movies of the holiday period gets my hopes up, and they aren't the only one who saw the CinemaCon footage and put it in a grouping with Rogue One. But I'm planning on being happy with Gravity numbers, if it makes those. And I am still a bit nervous about it opening a week after Rogue One does.
It also matters if this turns out to be a prestige movie or not, and I don't think we know that yet.

Top 4 DOM for Jan-Apr is looking strong...
- Deadpool: $360 million
- Zootopia: $340 million
- The Jungle Book: $335 million
- Batman vs. Superman: $330 million
Add in Civil War, X-Men, Dory, ID42, Pets, and SS - 2016's top 10 could feasibly be made up of all $225 million+ DOM grossers. With Doctor Strange, Fantastic Beasts, Moana ,Rogue One and Sing remaining for late 2016.
I'm no box office expert, but I'd put Passengers above some of those, based on the reaction to the footage at CinemaCon. http://variety.com/2016/film/news/cinemacon-buzzmeter-whats-hot-and-cold-in-las-vegas-1201752133/

So the couple might be Gleeson and Jen, with Bardem as an uninvited guest. Wonder if Pfeiffer plays Bardem's partner, or maybe Jen's mom. There's something of a physical similarity, imho.

I did like Rush, but I think this movie was a bad idea from the beginning.

I didn't see any write ups of the CinemaCon footage response here. I don't know if it is because some are a bit spoilery at least vaguely, and that isn't allowed? I'm going to post a few.

I really hope this movie breaks out, not only for the actors in it, rather because this is the only (?) big budget (non-animated) original movie this year which has a decent chance to make big business.
Yeah. Completely apart from seeing Jen and Chris Pratt, and sheerly liking the sound of it, I would really like to see more original material in theaters.
So when can we see a trailer for this? will the CinemaCon trailer be released to the public?
It was 3-4 minutes long, isn't that a bit long for most trailers? I would love to see it, though. The effects weren't completely finished, so I don't expect to see it for a while. I am hoping to see it with X-Men Apocalypse, but that might be too early.

I feel you, but you can't say YOU GOT PAID LESS than them because you're a women at the same time. She had a smaller role so she got less pay. Its not like Bale and Cooper are nobodies.
And Renner? You don't mention him, but he worked less and has far less screen time, and is nowhere near the name she is. And Amy Adams had much more screen time but got paid what Jen was paid.
But Jen didn't say what you just said. She said SHE didn't ask for more because her own thinking held her back and wondered if women were more prone to having that thinking than men.

Her writing the thing was annoying enough, it made me not like her anymore. She got paid the most on the movie if you go by DAY rates. She worked like 19 days and made 60% of what Bale and Cooper made doing 42 days.
Its not that she complained its that she had to post it everywhere, I must have seen 30 girls share her inspirational story to all women, so many shame on men/shame on hollyoowd Facebook statues that were unneeded.
Obviously, liking someone is personal and mysterious, and you don't have to explain not liking someone. She didn't post it everywhere, though, she was asked to write for a new newsletter a friend of a friend was starting and she did. Others, who have their own agendas which may or may not dovetail with her beliefs post it everywhere because her name gets clicks. But she does believe it is fair for women to be paid according to the same standards as men. And that means by star power and draw as well as time on the set.
You do know that Harrison Ford made a bit more for The Force Awakens than Daisy Ridley did, right? And obviously he was on screen less. And Sony's own internal email said her pay next to Renner's was ridiculous. So I don't really think there is an argument to be made that she was paid on an equal scale. And I suspect that red face effect helped her negotiations with Sony.
But Sony has since then bid on a highly competitive concept she was attached to: Marita. And Sony just bought the rights to The Last Goodnight (some call it 'Blonde Bond') and Sony said she is their first choice for the lead. And Rothman (the CEO) said introducing her and Pratt at CinemaCon that “I suppose all I can say is that, in 30 years of riding the celluloid trail, I have never a young actress of such power, grace, range, authenticity and impact. Which is a lot of words for saying she hits the screen – pow!” http://spinoff.comicbookresources.com/2016/04/14/cinemacon-sony-showcases-ghostbusters-spider-man-and-passengers/ So, it sounds like there is no problem in her relationship with the studio.
But whether you like her or not is your own choice.

The movie is moving away from Rogue One overseas.
Adorocinema listed it will be released on Dec 29th in Brazil, Germany will release it on Jan 05th, 2017 and (according to Rentrak) the Release date for Portugal and Spain are Dec 29th and 30th.
Glad to hear it! Unfortunately, I doubt it will happen domestically since Sony has announced 'Christmas' at CinemaCon. But from what the Telegraph and Variety and the L.A. Times and others write about their reaction to the clip shown at CinemaCon, I am hoping people will see both movies. I know that for me, this is my most eagerly anticipated movie of the year.
This is going to be at the Dubai Film Festival in December, as well.
And here is some concept art for the movie

If she did, I hope that he makes a big stink over it and complains about the horrible realities of multimillionaires in Hollywood getting less millions than other multimillionaires, and I hope that when he does, she is ok with it, because, after all, she is all about equality.
What she said in what she wrote is that she didn't blame Sony for getting paid less, she never asked for more. But that the reason she didn't ask for more was that she wanted to be liked and not considered a 'brat'. And she wondered if women were more likely to feel that way then men, and that her male co-stars obviously hadn't been worried about being called brats. And she noted that the email leak showed that one high profile female star was called a brat when she asked for more, so she wasn't sure she was wrong about that.
When asked about what she wrote, she said again that she certainly didn't blame Sony which was a business and wasn't going to give her money if she didn't ask for it. That they were all taking less money than usual because they wanted to do an ensemble piece with high profile stars, and otherwise it would have been too expensive to make. However, she saw when the emails leaked who was getting a little less than usual, and who was getting a lot less than usual.
She didn't say, but I will, that the email leak also showed there was one pay level both female leads got, and one higher level all three male leads got. Despite the fact that Renner was not in more time and had less star power than either Amy Adams or JLaw, he got the higher pay the other men got.
Internal emails showed an internal conversation at Sony saying it was ridiculous Jen got so little next to Renner, and the response was that she couldn't be raised because then they would also have to raise Amy Adams' pay. Clearly, Sony had the two women at one pay level and the three men at another, in lock step regardless of star power or role in the film, imho.
But Jennifer never said any of that. She spoke about how her mentality got in the way of her negotiation. And I think that Sony leak was the best thing that could have happened to her since she only got 15 million for Mockingjay 1 and 2 together (compared to something like 30 million that Kristan Stewart got for the last two part movie in Twilight.) She clearly wanted to please people to the point where she hadn't a clue what she was worth. So after that, when Sony had agreed to her pay on this, no, she wasn't going to do it for less when a new CEO came in. And I think it will make Sony a ton of money. In fact, they may have lucked out on getting Chris Pratt under contract before JW - or they might have had to pay him more, as well.
I wish this would move to Thanksgiving weekend, personally, away from Rogue One. But with the reactions at CinemaCon, it sounds like this and Rogue One will BOTH be must see movies this holiday season, so I am hoping for the best on that front.

Um, there is romance and a crises, and they are traveling. Other than that, I don't see the similarity. However, you aren't the first one to say that. I just don't get it.
