Dang, I knew when I saw the page count of this thread it'd be a J-Law fanboy shitshow.

Anyway, I'm one of the few people who still thinks Black Swan is a pretty good film so I'm sure I'll give this a go at some point.

Yes, Black Swan was good because it was coherent. mother! is the opposite of coherent. I have no fucking clue what they were trying to do with this, if they even knew what that was.

That isn't a big price difference

And I still felt robbed. If I wanted to watch an experimental film, I can watch a college student's work. On YouTube. For free.

But that's what I get for not reading reviews and trying to walk into this with a clean slate. I ended up not getting what I hoped for.

  3. Saw it at a 3:30 PM showing. While the film had my attention for much of its duration, I felt like I still wasted my time when I watched it. The film tries too hard to fling too many symbols and perceived "metaphors" in the film to the point where I just stopped trying to figure out all of it. Very convoluted, but still somewhat entertaining, so it just gets a 5/10 from me. If you want to see it, do so on a $5 Tuesday. $7.25 felt a tad too much for this kind of experience.

And I still don't understand what people see in Aronofsky. Another Get Out or "deep and meaningful horror film" this was not. It was claptrap.

In a freaky coincidence, I was driving back from town today..... and waiting at some traffic lights, a red ballon floated across the front of the car.

What is not so coincidental is that I've seen red balloons tied to sewer grates since Saturday. That is not coincidental. But in your case? I'd be paranoid.

The Bar Mitzah IIRC is a coming of age thing in the Jewish faith and I think Stan's fear is the fear of growing up.

Yeah, I recognized that part. It's just that, coming from that background of being in a religious family and myself being a skeptic (even now), it made sense to me when I saw him go through that stage when his perception of reality was challenged.

Granted, I never saw clowns in the sewers. I just think I saw what they were going for with his character.

  6. I actually believe Stan's character could have been well portrayed if he had more to do. But I do believe there was more to him than people suspect at first glance.

He wasn't studying the Torah for his bar mitzvah and he didn't take it seriously at all. Of course, he was also the skeptic when it came to It/Pennywise's activities, and even argued that nothing they saw was real. He took it the hardest when he realized that the things they went through were actually happening. Fast forward to the montage, and he successfully completes his bar mitzvah.

Basically, his lack of belief in It/Pennywise in the beginning reflected a lack of faith in his religion. He was a skeptical type of person who didn't take his studies seriously. At least, that's how I interpreted it...

People say WB is going to want to fast track the sequel, but they can only move so quickly.

As far as we know, they still haven't cast any of the adult actors for the kids, and the director of Part 1 isn't even confirmed as being back yet.

Not only that, but he's also slated to direct Paramount's Dracul, which could get in the way of things as well.

At least, I'm assuming he's pegged to direct it. There isn't a lot of clarity about what role he's playing.

  8. I have to say that I feel Mike was just treated as a token black character. No need for the PC police, because really, he truly IS more developed in the book. I realize now that they could have fixed this up and had Mike play a more integral role. Like with Stan, he was sort of "just there." Mike was a key player in the novel.

  9. IT
    September 7th, 7:00 PM, 100% full
Park Place Stadium Cinemas | Charleston, WV

Extremely reactive crowd that was fun to be around.

    Trailers
    Death Wish - Some laughter.
    Flatliners - No reactions.
Blade Runner - This got some excitement from a number of individuals.
Friend Request - EVERYBODY made fun of this trailer.

People were surprised many times by jump scares. Some looked away when certain things happened to characters. Overall, people had very positive things to say about IT. Word of mouth will make this a monster to overcome.
