This doesn't feel like a Spielberg movie at all. The style and everything: if I didn't know Spielberg did in fact direct this and it wasn't in the trailer and you showed me the trailer then told me Spielberg did this, I wouldn't believe you.

This has nothing to do with the movie's quality. It just doesn't feel like a Spielberg movie.

Perhaps he simply wants to do something different after 40+ years in the industry? I'd be up for something different if I had a career as illustrious as his.

I hope this movie doesn't only rely on nostalgia for the sake of making the audience feel nostalgic and being all like "Oh look. The Iron Giant. Something I recognize from my childhood. Pop culture! I automatically love this movie because of how nostalgic I feel."

Same. Nostalgia is a great feel-good thing, but a film can't survive on that alone.

$10 million sounds impossible after the opening weekend Power Rangers had in Japan:

    https://twitter.com/GMANonScified/status/886630447442264064

Even considering that Super Sentai movies typically don't open #1 in Japan, that still sounds very, very low for PR at $575,000.  It has to be a major disappointment for Toei, since they co-own the Power Rangers property with Saban Brands.

That's a below average opening even for Super Sentai films. Kamen Rider films seldom crack $10 million over there, but they do so much better than what Power Rangers has opened with.

    You must have hated Avengers.

The characters in that film were already established. They weren't cramming several origin stories into one film. Sony's already done this twice with Spider-Man 3 and TASM2. And if they add another character that's supposed to turn into a villain or superhero, it'll be the third time they've tried pulling this.

And if you need a reminder, Sony is total shit when it comes to learning from previous mistakes.

‘Godzilla: King Of The Monsters’ Adds Elizabeth Ludlow; Kevin Chapman Cast In ‘Slender Man’

    Quote

Kevin Chapman has joined the Sylvain White-directed horror film Slender Man, written by David Burke and Mike Scannell. Starring Joey King and Julia Goldani-Telles, the pic centers on a tall thin horrifying figure with a featureless face that is responsible for the haunting, stalking and disappearance of countless victims. Chapman will play Mr. Jensen, an alcoholic emotionally defeated father.

WHAAAAAAAAT? Split and Get Out are both in the top 10 of all time for the genre. Both movies were acclaimed by critics, had amazing legs, and Get Out has big chances at getting Oscar nominations (it would be the first one since THE SIXTH SENSE). Both movies had huge cultural impact, and I'm pretty sure they'll be atemporal. We still have A:C and IT coming, two movies that are locked to explode, with IT having high chances at breaking records. Surely, summer hasn't been so good as last year, but the year has been phenomenal so far.

The bad ones really overshadow the good ones in my mind. I forget that Split came out THIS YEAR because it came near the very beginning of it.

How are they gonna explain Venom's Spidey like powers and appearance without Spidey's presence?

I realized this moments after I made that post, tbh. Then I just shut up.

You are completely correct. Venom was inadvertently created by Peter Parker, and Carnage by Eddie Brock. Maybe Spider-Man could be referenced, but that's not the same as actually having him on board.

Dean Israelite is now blaming the PG-13 rating for the box office run of Power Rangers at Screen Rant.  He believed it could have made more if it was PG.   Of course, consider that it was flop internationally too, where they use other systems than the U.S. rating system.

Nah, it's because Power Rangers had very limited appeal before they made this film. Lionsgate/Saban were trying to sell the "nostalgia" factor, and their strategy backfired.

The only feasible market was North America. No other countries cared. But even the former's gross wasn't impressive.

  9. First casting announcement has arrived from Hollywood Reporter. Zhang Ziyi has been picked for a recurring role. Her first appearance will be in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and she is also slated to appear in Godzilla vs. Kong.

  10. Wonder Woman

    June 1st, 7:45 PM, 35% full

Marquee Cinemas Southridge 12 | Charleston, WV

Nobody was particularly responsive to the trailers.

    Trailers

    Cars 3

The Mummy <---Currently the most common trailer I've seen in theaters so far this year.

    Thor: Ragnarok

    Justice League

    The Glass Castle

There was laughter during appropriate moments. I think this was just a typical movie-going audience that wanted to sit quietly and be entertained, because everyone had positive things to say once the movie was finished.

I always liked people's complains about Edwards hiding Godzilla. It shows a total lack of knowledge of the film series, that just makes the irony of them all the more sweeter.

I wouldn't say that Toho are best known for hiding Godzilla, but the films always had more or at least equal focus on human characters compared to the monsters.

The problem with Edwards's and co.'s execution of the pacing was that they tried to pull that off in a two hour film. Unless we're talking about Shin Godzilla, where there are quality characters and an interwoven backstory to explore, that's a poor decision to make. The pacing has to be better in Godzilla 2 and Godzilla vs. Kong, or the negative reception will come back to haunt their box office draws.
