Like when adapting any type of source material for decades, they all won't succeed. They've botched a lot, and succeeded a lot. It isn't like the industry has a history of failing, otherwise they'd have stopped doing it.
The industry does have a history of failing in adapting anime and manga into live action. Little success

The net is physical in real life RedX, what do you think the internet is?
What do you mean by this? What physical properties does the internet have? It's an intangible construct. It's not even an apt comparison to the fictional concept in GitS.

I was betting on at most 59%....we got a long road ahead until Friday, might reach it.
The positive reviews are honestly nice, knowing the franchise. I have to add that a couple of the negative reviews are odd in attempting to critique an absurd premise with such seriousness. Dismissing the film because of an antagonist's name is a bit much. And suggesting the new film has grand lessons to learn from the old series is also an odd supposition that makes you question Ehrlic's recollection of the series.

For one. Death Note comes to mind as well. I'm not big into Anime so I couldn't tell you a lot, but there's been successful live action anime adaptations, and successful live action adaptations of manga as well. (And video games) Note, none of these are American made examples.
Those are sadly the only ones successful. Japan has botched a lot of anime and manga adaptations too.

all information is stored physically, the net is just a connection of stored information
They can connect to the network through their physical "shells" and cybernetic bodies. In no way has the net been defined as physical

This sounds like it's the best Power Rangers has produced. I'll probably enjoy it

Considering Ehrlic (Indiwire) gave Rogue One and Civil War C's, that's not too shabby

but the net is a physical thing, essentially a shell
It's really not since its frequently described as ever expanding, infinite space

combined memories of the major and some super android reborn as a young girl.. or something
She can freemly roam the net with just her ghost

Just the 1995 film, to clarify what I meant if the memories and personality aren't stored somewhere then the "ghost" doesn't exist.
You remember the end of '95?

Puppet Master is an American-made program running rampant in Japan that's being covered up by the American government-controlled Japanese government. It's even more clear in Stand Alone Complex and the manga.
It's creation is ordered and directed by a sister intelligence department under the ministry of affairs. It's American-made in the sense of who the chief architect is

For anyone saying "IT DOESN'T MATTER IF MAKOTO ((Oh my bad, MIRA)) IS JAPANESE OR NOT" first of all why would someone who's meant to be in a JAPANESE police force be white? And besides that it's removing representation from a group that sorely needs it in Western film. Though ontop of that, it's less just about the whitewashing and more a symbol of the film in general which just doesn't care that much about the source material beyond just copying from it in some places and drastically stupidly changing it in others.
The anime film takes place in a fictitious setting modeled after Hong Kong. It's also suggested that a multiculral populace inhabits the region. The matters of each operative's origins are not thoroughly explored or discussed within the series. Batou is obviously a French name and the character looks conspicuously European, but that kind of thing is not a point of focus. It sure does make me skeptical of any argument that proposes he's certainly of Japanese descent because of the aforementioned and how it's moot when the property's central ideas are that of transhumanism.
The anime also distinguishes between Japanese characters without enhancements and those who have cybernetic bodies, so this point can also be disregarded.
I'm positive Shirow intended to draw characters to appear ethnically neutral as a matter of emphasizing themes.
Anyway, the new film has a really diverse cast. Takeshi Beat, Rila Fukushima, and Kaori Momoi just to name a few Japanese actors, might be missing more. The Section 9 cast is arguably among the most diverse ensembles Hollywood has produced in years so there is representation

without a shell the ghost doesn't exist
also Scarjo's acting is bad so that's not a particular good route to take either
Have you watched the original film and its sequel? That's actually not true

I think the outrage over whitewashing this film is a bit misplaced. Most that are protesting have little understanding of the property, or are not aquainted with it all.

She plays a cyborg that frequently ponders her existence and humanity. This is definitely a role for her

I wouldn't say Disney doesn't have faith in Scarjo.
Remember what they did in Winter Soldier where she was co-lead.
My reasoning why Black Widow didn't have its own movie is power level, the character doesn't really have superpowers that are visually exciting.
That's sad because it's not far-fetched for a large film studio to prioritize spectacle over character. They could produce a great espionage thriller with BW

it's first link for the search "Ghost In Shell Muscles", I guess it's cherry picking but the point still remains. Scarjo is not athletic and the Major should be player by an athletic actress. If there exists no action star female A list actor, then just pick a B list one. Or take a hit in the quality of the film in exchange for extra box office (just like Ghost in the Shell).
She's athletic and has the acting chops, which is much more important for the role of The Major.

There are different types of fantastic figures. Nobody is insulting Scarlett. She has a fantastic, hourglass, old Hollywood sexbomb figure. Not a fantastic athletic figure. This is what athletic figure looks like:
Unlike hourglass, athletic figure has narrow hips and almost no waist. It also doesn't have softness to it. It's simply a different type, not better or worse.
Can either of these people deliver a commendable acting performance, let alone lead a blockbuster?

From your response I'm guessing you're unfamiliar with the source material.
Sscarjo does not the physique or the ability to move athletically, which the casting of this role should have had. You probably think I'm shitting on Scarjo saying she looks terrible, which I'm not, I'm saying she ain't right for the role.
What actress looks like that? This is a cherry picked scene as well because her cybernetic body is being pushed to its limits as she takes on a strainful load.

Saban's Power Rangers | March 24, 2017 | Teaser Trailer on Page 47
in Box Office Discussion

So, you approached the same original Power Rangers with the same critical thought? I would be pressed to be believed that. Describing something as "kiddie trash" sounds so overly pompous and amateurish as a professional critic. I'm not particularly surprised by it and won't personally grieve over it
