this is disappointing. We have a fantastic cast, a director that seems talented, great production values, producers that have produced many well received and even classic movies. All the ingredients needed to make a good movie. Why couldn't they take the time to get the script and story right? They could have even delayed it.
It was frequently delayed. Fassbender developed it with Ubisoft. I'm getting a hold of the script Wednesday and I can share it

LOL
Well, I'm seeing a pattern of reviewers calling it the best video game movies have to offer. Low bar anyway. Still excited to see it tomorrow

Still excited to see it tomorrow. Ehrlic and Singer's review have me intrigued

There is something about video games that don't translate and films don't capture. Games are a step beyond movies because they enable gamers to become those characters in epic stories.
Yeah, that was the reason Michael took it upon on himself to produce an original story with new characters

I wonder what happens to Uncharted and Tomb Raider after that.
Yeah that's hard to nail down. We'll see Tomb Raider before Uncharted and on a more modest budget

Just FYI, this movie cost over $200 million, and it's projections have it at about $20 million for its opening weekend. So yeah.
That's with marketing including, but I don't see it being a financial success either

Let's just say I *was* asked to take a tweet down indicating when it'd lift. The time I speculated/posted earlier in this thread is close though.
DanielR is prob LA.
Lol what are those messages like?

Different screenings, different rules. This one is UK, remember.
Yea when does it lift?

Makes sense, doubt there will be any demands to take them down though. Wonder which Daniel went to then

These two will probably be asked to take their reactions down. They're in Ubi's good books so maybe FOX will let them stay up? idk.
was explicitly told no reactions on social media or reviews till the embargo lift.
What about the fan ones from a week ago and DanielR's?

Really?
Yea, from fans and people who were at the screening

A lot of people have said it, but there's something about a video game that's hard to replicate in a film. It's different when you're controlling the character. There's like a deeper personal attachment when you're making the choices, seeing the game through an avatar.
Personally, the best video game movies are the ones that aren't meant to be one like Edge of Tomorrow. I felt like I was watching a video game. Hardcore Henry is another example, though it's not a good movie. It took all the cliches of a video game and blended them together. It's probably the closest to a "true" video game adaptation.
Hopefully that approach works here

Sadly considering there are no reviews yet it's probably not good. The talent involved really made me hope this was good
I think it's good for them to sustain the hype before unleashing the reviews wether they're good or bad. It may not have been a wise choice for Passengers to do that looking back

Always wary of those "I heard from some people who saw it that it's not good", kinda like Devin Faraci with Daredevil saying he'd heard that the show was trash you could do that for every movie really.
Listened to the segment: he just said "from people I've spoken to, really not getting strong word", that's it.
Just watched the segment. Yeah, you can't really read so much into it. He says that and that the distributor naturally isn't hot on a video game movie. Not much there

Simon from MTMP said that he talked to some people who saw it and.. it's not good.
Where did he say this? The most recent MTMP?
