so the greats gatsby is tougher competition than the double whammy of Monster University and World War Z in its 2nd weekend. Please give me what you are smoking.
Yet MoS still managed a 2.5x

I really think that 3.20x multiplier from a 103m OW (i think it'll go up with actuals) is not as crazy as precedents point. Competition is definitely softer than previous years and WOM seems to be through the roof (we'll know better with Sunday and Monday actuals). I say it passes the 330m DOM of Batman V Superman.
6x multi to get to 660. What's that? Yes, I think actuals will surprise and be at 110.

Some notable things that got cheers at my showing:
WW's first appearance in costume.
All the big action beats. And most of the minor ones.
The trailer for Dunkirk.
The trailer for BladeRunner 2049
The trailer for Justice League
Anecdotally, not only were there cheers for JL, but several of the women in the audience vocally praised Jason Momoa. And maybe some men, too.
Women are still good.

Zootopia: 98% and x10 OW
BvS: 28% and x1.72 OW
And let's remember that the 20s RT make over $300m in USA too.
Transformers 2, the one with the giant testicles, made 400m in America.

HD leak of BatB dropped earlier this week. It could be one of the factors for the sharper drop this weekend.
Most people who would go to the movies to see BatB this week wouldn't have pirated.

Nolan is loved among the Reddit/fanboy crowd, but he's far from a household name.
Honestly. Everyone keeps bringing up Interstellar, but even that didn't beat Gravity. Despite the fact that it's larger cast should have been a stronger draw. Maybe it did well enough because it was a space movie with well advertised spectacle.

Good point.
I don't think any of his movies have good multipliers. With the exception of 300 of course.
MoS still has 2.5 or so, not great but still

ANyone who says Valerian looks generic as hell clearly doesn't know jack shit. What are Marvel and the star wars movies then? I love them but they are definition of generic. tried and tested formula.
Yeah. I really think it's the marketing's fault, it doesn't seem to be selling it as anything different, but I'll say if you look closely, it really doesn't look generic.
SpoilerHonestly Blade Runner looks more generic.

"The Martian" was a great example to hint at a visionary director, that that's what audiences want: New stuff.
Robin Hood, those Alien Prequels, Exodus.
Those aren't stories worth telling anymore.Maybe it's just the fact, that Scott has no great stories left in his mind.
Martian was an adaption.
He can just do another one.

400 million for a superhero movie not having Batman, Spidey, Supes, or even Iron Man. That's an amazing feat. How come Gotg became bigger than like Hulk, Thor, Doctor Strange, and possibly Captain America?
That's potentially an amazing feat.
It hasn't happened yet.

Oh shit they used Search and Destroy.

Shame that he won't be getting a big budget film with WB anymore though. King Arthur was a fucking mess but I loved the hell out of it. Even his bad movies are great fun.
He could. If he does Aladdin and it's a success. Also, I think WB probably knows that it's not completely his fault that KA was such a massive bomb.

Uhh except it had a shitty Tuesday increase. Like the worst in the top 10. So no it's still a shitty Wednesday. This movie hasn't really impressed at the box office except for Sunday. Otherwise every day is another disappointment with these numbers. Hopefully weekend 2 doesn't suck as bad as every week day. I thought Monday was bad then I saw the poor Tuesday bump followed by a brutal wipeout on Wednesday. What's next a 60% weekend decline?!
I've only been a here a few days, but even I know that this is overreacting.
