    Sonic Previews Final

    MTC1 - overall 1547 shows 59426/239573 847553.86 675073.90

    MTC2 - overall 1804 shows 49585/258762 594537.66 421661.03

Looking at MTC1 its missing 4m. But it has overperformed at MTC2. Still will stick to 3.75m previews.

Photograph sold just over 24700 tickets between the 2 MTC. I would say 0.7m considering it has overindexed bigtime at MTC1(2x MTC2).

    Sonic OD PS

    MTC1 - overall 3594 shows 97686/597583 1279483.34 1043170.48

    MTC2 - overall 3541 shows 90473/550878 951434.40 761393.66

Again its overperforming big time at MTC2. MTC1 to overall ratio will be lower for OD and so I am expecting PS for friday to be 7m by the time shows start tomorrow.

    Fantasy Island OD PS

    MTC1 - overall 1534 shows 25294/207893 361425.14 291383.37

    MTC2 - overall 1501 shows 18395/187700 195373.49 144401.97

Around 65% of Photograph. Not sure how walkups will be. But I will guess OD of 4m for FI.

Looks like Sonic will have a 3-day opening of $52M and a 4-day opening of $60-$65M.

  2. My spoiler-free thoughts on #SonicTheHedgehog:

A fun family-friendly video game movie that benefits from Ben Schwartz’s wisecracking vocal performance as the titular Blue Blur, Jim Carrey as Doctor Robotnik and a last minute redesign of Sonic’s model. The opening scene is well put together and explains why Sonic had to stay on Earth, it’s actually quite sad when you see it. The comedy is charming with the callbacks to Marvel movies, Star Wars, Fast and Furious and Keanu Reeves. And, the lore of Sonic they expand on the movie is actually established quite well. I think this is the second best video game movie after Pokemon: Detective Pikachu and it’s worth seeing. Also, make sure you stay for two post credits scenes, one that will make you say “I wanna see a sequel”, which my theater agreed with when they clapped in applause after it ended.

    Final score: 5 stars. ️ 10/10.

P.S. There’s only one downside in this movie which is that we didn’t get something that I hope the get in potential sequel - Jim Carrey’s Robitnik saying  1 word... “PINGAS”. 😛😋😂

I really don't see this be a franchise starter. They'll probably get one sequel but I just don't see it going on after that if that film is just "competent" too. They should at least fast track the sequel to 2022 if they want the second film to do well too because if it releases anytime later than that than that, they'll just get a Angry Birds 2. But the fact that this is looking to be a big hit is probably good enough for Paramount.

Same thing if they make a direct sequel to Detective Pikachu. But if Legendary actually goes forward with a another Pokemon movie, I doubt it's going to be connected to Detective Pikachu.

Should they release it in Christmas 2022?

Terminator: Dark Fate was #1 in November.

Other than that though, it’s totally on them, because they had films last year that could’ve done it.

-They released What Men Want ($18m) on the same weekend as The Lego Movie 2.

-They released Wonder Park ($16m) a week after Captain Marvel.

-They released Pet Sematary ($25m) on the same weekend as Shazam!

-They released Rocketman ($26m) on the same weekend as Godzilla.

-They released Crawl ($12m) a week after Spider-Man.

-They released Dora ($17m) a week after Hobbs & Shaw.

-They released Gemini Man ($21m) a week after Joker.

-Playing with Fire ($13m) was basically thrown to the dogs in a packed weekend.

For as poor an overall year as they had, they’re the only major studio other than Disney to open all of their releases in the double digits. They could’ve hit #1 with like 7 out of 9 of them with better scheduling, but they seem to have gone for a counter-programming strategy.

Maybe 2020 will work out better for them this year and get them back in 5th place after losing it since 2012, the first time they were in 6th or 7th place.

It's a shame Sega don't really have IP that could translate well into live action films.

Sonic will be Paramount's first number 1 film in over 18 months, that's a very long drought for them and hopefully after a lackluster 2019, they can bounce back this year,

They will, thanks to Sonic, Spongebob, Tom Cruise and A Quiet Place. We’ll see if Clifford the Big Red Dog, Snake Eyes and Eddie Murphy can provide muscle.

  6. Apparently, Box Office Mojo is listing the budget for Sonic The Hedgehog as $85M, not $95M as initially rumored: https://www.boxofficemojo.com/release/rl4244997633/?ref_=bo_hm_rs. Does this improve it’s box office chances now that it essentially cost the same as Birds Of Prey’s $84.5M budget?

I mean, you should probably say "critics who hate bad movies"

I mean, Detective Pikachu was alright, and Warcraft had some potential in there. Tomb Raider was decent but not spectacular... I feel like video game movies have more or less gotten the reviews they deserve.

What about Angry Birds Movie 2, the highest rated Fresh video game movie on Rotten Tomatoes.

  8. So, based on current analysis of theater showings, what can we expect for Sonic’s 4-day weekend without jinxing it? Because there’s apparently some idiot on Reddit claiming the resin BoP underperformed was because of a portion of the domestic audience being spooked by the threat of the CoronaVirus when that’s just note true and he’s accusing the evidence you have to back up a possible breakout hit for Sonic as incorrect and unbelievable.

They should've just used this song for the movie instead of that awful song they got rn:

Edit: The video just reminded me of all the really awesome levels in the game. I guess it's time I play the game again.

I don’t know. I’ve listened to Speed Me Up a few times and it’s gotten more memorable for me to sing. It’s much better than Shell Shocked.
