Overseas holds have been pretty good so far on weekdays

Just a tad over $3M in Sweden with 195k tickets. That's.....not very good at all to be honest. I think it's gonna play well over the holidays here (at least I can see signs of it), but it really needs to do so to get anywhere near the first one in terms of gross (admits is long gone now).
Wouldn't $3M in Sweden be highest opening in 2022 ? Atleast among Hollywood movies ?

I'd be bit surprised if A2 finishes below TGM worldwide. A2 has opened pretty well in Europe. Considering there isn't much competition over next few weeks and WOM is positive, it should have good legs
-
like I said, people overestimated the impact of WorldCup final. Even in Europe where I thought the impact would be quite significant, it didn't drop that much

hmm I think our newpapers and internet articles might have done some damage
I saw someone saying that even Avatar first part performed relatively much better in rest of Europe when compared to UK..maybe Avatar brand is just not that strong in UK when compared to rest of Europe

Other than UK, A2 seems to have opened extremely well in rest of Europe. Opening has been very good in smaller markets.

How is there's low interest in India? In south especially it's crazy
final would probably be seen by at max 1-2% of Indian population...so relatively speaking, it's still low interest.
-
China, Japan opening has been quite disappointing but it also opened pretty well in lot of markets.

So roughly around US$3M opening ? That looks like good opening just by looking at openings of other big movies this year in Norway

Yea it'll be around 1.25-1.4 billion if the last two WC Finals rates of increase hold. Total viewership for all matches is around 5 billion but that doesn't mean 5 billion individuals watched.
yeah...this number makes sense and is much closer to reality. People overestimate these things all the time. For example in India, average rating per match this worldcup has been around 5M viewers which is like 0.33% of Indian population. Can't imagine viewing numbers in China to be much higher either considering the match started almost close to midnight there.

4 billions viewers for the World Cup final
that definitely isn't true... world population is around 8 Billion and 3 Billion of them are in India & China where the viewership for the final would be very low due to less interest and late starting time

WC will probably impact Sunday almost everywhere and even more than people expect. It should be by far the most watched WC final ever with like 900 million people watching the entire thing and even more tuning in for parts of it. And it went on for like 3+ hours. Even in asian countries you will see a noticable impact.
WC will have significant impact mainly in Europe and LATAM..I don't think it'll have significant impact in US, Asia. In lot of the East Asian countries, WorldCup started almost at midnight....In Korea & Japan, Worldcup final started at midnight 12AM...In Thailand, Philippines etc, it would have started almost at 11PM. In India, it started at around 9PM but India is one market where I don't expect WC to have much impact..infact Sunday is going to be biggest day at boxoffice so far for A2 in India.
-
India is gonna be $7M+ on Sunday... excellent day

I can't stress how amazing of a run A2 is having in Andhra & Telengana states..It will most likely cross EndGame and become highest grosser among Hollywood movies in Andhra & Telengana states by Monday only.
-
Interstellar > Arrival >> Martian >>>> Gravity. Gravity was so boring for me to watch even in theater..I couldn't even imagine watching it at home.
-
Correct me if I am wrong....if Saturday number is $44M, isn't that an extremely positive sign for long run ? It would be 22% growth over True Friday. TGM which had comparable preview number had 19% growth. Whereas among MCU movies which were lot more frontloaded, DS2 had 7% growth, BPWF was almost flat

my thought process that it might have an affect today rather than tomorrow, as some might want to sleep early in order to make sure to not miss the match
there might be few people like this but I don't think it's going to be significant...it's only early morning start for WestCoast folks. For Central Timezone people, it's a 9AM start which is neither that early nor too late in the day which can affect theaters. NFL is a much bigger threat than WorldCup for A2 as it pulls in lot many more viewers than WorldCup and runs during almost entire day.

As others pointed out WC ratings have been strong in the US. 2018 WC final averaged 17.8 million and 2022 should do much better because of Messi. NFL as of a month ago was averaging 16 million.
that's not the right comparison imo..NFL has multiple games going on at the same time...so actual viewership across the country would be much higher than 16M. On a typical Sunday, cumulative viewership of NFL matches would be around 60-80M viewers

I don't think WorldCup will have significant notable effect atleast in US tomorrow. Final will be finished by 9AM PST and since it's not involving US, the ratings for a match that early in the day are likely going to be around 12-15M viewers which is much lesser than typical NFL Sunday ratings. NFL cumulative viewership on Sunday is crazy..like across the entire Sunday, it pulls around 60M-70M viewers.

Good news from India. A2 is opening on par with Endgame! Could become the biggest HLW film all-time or at the very least, 2nd highest ever! 🇮🇳
It will become 5th highest Hollywood movie of all time in India just by Monday or Tuesday....guaranteed to finish in top2. Decent chance it crosses EndGame in full run and become all time highest grosser among Hollywood movies

I would also note that 42Cr gross number is Nett which is gross - taxes...so gross would be around 50-52Crore (roughly $6M)

INDIA OW is on par with AEG,could beat it record to become the highest grossing HLW film there
It will become 5th highest grosser in India among Hollywood movies by Monday or Tuesday. It should easily finish in top2 in full run. At the moment, I think chances of beating EndGame in fullrun are probably 50-50..WOM is pretty good

Lets say A2 slightly underperforms at box-office vs pre-release expectations and ends up at $1.5B-1.8B but if the WOM is very positive, that should set up things well for A3 right ? I'd expect A3 to open better than A2...also you won't have that 13 year gap for A3 like we had for A2 and very likely little impact of covid during end of 2024.
