I knew it, all the Indian language trailer generate huge trailer views on YT especially hindi.

Hindi opening was ok, nothing special. I was referring to Telugu which had amazing opening. In Andhra and Telengana which are primarily Telugu speaking states in Southern India, both English and Telugu version are having amazing occupancy..almost 65-70% occupancy even for afternoon, evening shows. In general, opening in Northern India was average whereas Southern India had an exceptional opening day, likely highest among Hollywood movies. There were some special early morning shows in Andhra & Telengana during 6AM-8AM which had very good occupancies.

  2. A2 has opened amazingly in my home state (AP/TS) in India. It probably has best occupancy % here than any other state/country across the world. Opening day is gonna be around $2M+, more than double of previous highest (among Hollywood movies). AP/TS alone are gonna contribute to around 30% of opening day gross from India.

Overall, EndGame will still hold the Opening Day record in India among Hollywood movies. A2 likely will end up as 2nd best opener. It will likely cross EndGame opening day in South India but going to underperform EndGame significantly in North India

  3. Watched the re-released version today in IMAX 3D. I haven't watched the movie since its original release..I really enjoyed today's experience. It was a beautiful movie both emotionally and visually.

Avatar's Way of Water footage shown in the post credits scene looked amazing visually. Those under the water visuals were something else..never seen anything like that. I don't know much about technical stuff but this footage just looked and felt really different than anything I have seen so far

Ryan Coogler made it clear that he was completely unaware of Chadwick Boseman’s illness. The movie was very much supposed to have T’Challa as the main character.

damn...that made me lower my expectations on the movie a bit. So did he have to rework the entire script from the start or was it still in early stages when he got to know about Chadwick's illness ?

Don't let them fool you - ALL of them want to overturn legalization of same sex marriage

Younger Republicans don't care as much about it as the older ones. You can even see that in polls how Gen Z are much more open to gay marriage than older folks. It is mainly these Republican leaders trying to pander to their religious right base with this constant obsession of banning abortion

  6. I wish there was a poll on how much % of Republicans and how much % of Democrats go to theaters often and how that % has changed over last 15-20 years. In general, I have observed lot of negativity towards Hollywood from RW media in last decade, they use it pretty well to rile up their base. Some times there is valid criticism but most of the times, they just spout some bs and people eat it up. All I am saying is I would not be surprised if most of the audience that have stopped coming to theaters now (when compared to 20 years back) are Republican leaning.

I remember my cousin showing Magadheera to me as a kid. Did not have a good experience tho, because he said it's super gory (I don't think it was rn) and I ended up being scared for most of its runtime. Wanna get around to watching Maryada Ramanna (pretty sure I watched it's tamil remake before) sometime. Heard it's Rajamouli's best film.

Maryada Ramanna is a Telugu adaptation of Our Hospitality (1923). After it's success, it was then again remaked in Hindi. It was the first time Rajamouli did not have some star as his protagonist, rather he picked a guy who usually does comedic roles as his protagonist. It was a decent flick..some good fun and drama, although it does feel like bit dragged towards the end. I would not call it as Rajamouli's best. I still think Eega is Rajamouli's best.

Would Top Gun have dropped 45% this last weekend and not 29%, i would be with you.

But this second weekend was so astonishing that were clearly in unprecedented territory now. Phenomenon films often enough dont play by the usual rulebook.

Top Gun has Fathers Day weekend + a Holiday Monday on its 4th weekend and the Independence Day Holiday coming up + the usual summer weekdays. Its competition is certainly there, but apart from Dominion and Thor, there are no other big action movies this summer until Bullet Train in August. Plus, the awesome WOM can cancel out the screen loss to a certain degree. More people will just go to fewer screenings.

I truly think were in for a historic run.

I also think it's important to remember that the demographics makeup of TGM audience is just vastly different than your typical blockbuster. 60-65% of TGM audience are caucasian whereas that is somewhere around 35% for typical CBM movies. It seems to be attracting audience who frequently do not go to theaters. That's why I think it is less likely to be affected by competition than your normal blockbuster movie

3 of these states are the among the eight most Republican states in the country based on the last presidential election (Wyoming, Idaho and Montana).

Whereas Vermont is the most Democratic leaning state in entire country even though it is >95% White. Whites in Vermont are politically almost opposite of Whites in Wyoming, Idaho, Montana etc. New England Whites are the most liberal Whites in the country

Is being released in this many different Indian languages normal for a movie there?

Not really. Only few Hollywood movies get dubbed, especially into 5 languages. Avengers IW, EG did have dub versions but only in 2-3 languages. Avatar2 is being dubbed into Hindi (most widely spoken language in North India) and 4 other South Indian regional languages. Avatar Part1 was also dubbed into some of the regional languages and the dubbed versions did well even back then in 2009. Dubbing into regional languages helps in getting better reach for the movies in smaller cities and towns where not everyone understands English well.

  11. Its true that almost all the streaming platforms are currently operating at negative cash flows but I wouldn't lump Netflix with them. Infact Netflix is the only streaming platform I am aware of that is currently actually generating profits and positive cash flow. The reason Netflix stock tanked is mainly because they are not on track the see crazy growth which investors expected which was always unrealistic.

  12. I recently watched all the movies in this series for the first time and most of them were amazing. I am not a big action movies fan but somehow loved this series. It is also so rare to see quality of movies get better as the franchise progresses and this is one such rare franchise. I am so going to watch the Dead Reckoning Part1 on opening weekend.
