Everything is subjective. Look at even the fresh reviews for this movie. Many of them read rotten but the reviewer ultimately chose to make the movie fresh. There's plenty of fainted praise of Captain Marvel on this forum. "It's good, not top tier, but good." "I'd place it in the middle." "It's strong but not great."
What? Now you're going to tell me what movies and franchises I care about? You're a mind reader? I am a huge Star Wars and Marvel fan. I've been wanting a Captain Marvel movie for a long time. It's one of the movies I was most looking forward to, much more than Black Panther, a character I never really got into until his movie.
Nothing was going to dampen this movie's opening week. Marvel's last flick just a month before Endgame and starring its first female lead? This movie was always going to do relatively well just from the curiosity factor. I predicted Captain Marvel would do at least around $900 million because of these factors it had going for it. Admittedly, some people love this movie. However, there are a lot of people who saw it and didn't like it at all. I don't see strong legs for this.
You don't have to be an alt-right Youtuber to not like the direction Disney took Star Wars or Captain Marvel. I'm black and definitely not alt-right, and I found both movies filled with SJW nonsense. And Brie Larson has a long history of saying very off putting things.
Congrats to those who foresaw this $150+ opening! I thought it would do about $100 million.
I had to see the movie a second time on a date because I had promised this girl for weeks that I would take her. I hated the movie even more the second time, which I didn't think was possible. To me it's one of Marvel's worst movies, just above Thor 2 and Iron Man 2 and 3. I'll never watch this flick again. I don't think the 2nd and 3rd weekend drops will be kind to Captain Marvel. I expect a 70-75% 2nd weekend drop.
Hello all! A brief introduction. I'm Timothy, a lawyer (bar exam in couple months, fingers crossed!), lifetime Marvel comics fan and collector, gym rat, and all around movie fan. I'm seeing Captain Marvel with on a date tomorrow, but I am going to sneak and see it in a few minutes because I'm feeling a little hyped up for another Marvel flick. Hopefully it kicks ass!
