Okay, so I've been lurking and I came across this thread and decided to finally create an account to put my opinion out there. I feel a bit confused. Everybody on this thread is saying that song, "The Greatest Show", is terrible. People are even going as far as to say Hugh Jackman sounds terrible in it. I saw some blogger claim Jackman rapped in it. Ugh, no, he did not. I am quite honestly shocked at these reactions. I heard it a couple of days ago and instantly loved it. I think Hugh Jackman sounded like a rock star in it, and it was fun to listen to. I thought everyone sounded great - Zendaya, Zac, and Keala too. I thought the song was catchy and fun. I also enjoyed the "This Is Me" song. I let my husband listen to the song and he also loved it and told me he wants to see the movie at the cinema. I was with some friends when I listened to it who also loved it. So when I see people online trashing it, I have to ask WHY? Why do you guys think it's laughably bad? Why don't you think it sounds good? Is it so wrong that me and others actually think it's GOOD? I know Hugh Jackman will be dancing in the movie, and I've seen him dance live - he's great - so I am looking forward to that, and I feel that when this song is seen in context with them actually dancing and Barnum introducing the show, it's going to be fun.
I also don't understand people's criticism with how Barnum is being portrayed. Who cares? It's not like any of us were around when Barnum was alive to see how he really treated people. None of us are experts on him anyway. I've read a biography on him before, and from that author's point of view, he wasn't the evil person everyone on here claims he is. Different historians have different takes on what type of man he was. Was he a flawed human? Absolutely! Did he do some bad things? Sure! But many of the things he did were considered acceptable for the time he was living in. He was even against slavery when most of the U.S. at the time was still pro-slavery. So what's the problem? This is a family movie. It's supposed to be fun and fantastical. It's supposed to be anachronistic and it's not supposed to be taken as an absolute biography. Obviously Barnum didn't tap dance. I just feel like I'm in the minority here, but my husband, friends, and I are all excited for this movie. I am sincerely trying to understand why this movie is getting so much criticism before it even comes out.
