Is 8 Pages for Ignored Users too much? Asking for a friend....

     Jealous!

Hi, All. The Weekend Thead is going up on late Thursday night/early Friday morning when we get some actual preview numbers. There’s already two threads for angst or glee, depending on your agenda. We don’t need a third until we do. If anyone else starts it but me, it will be deleted.

  2. There is nothing ridiculous about telling folks to look out for their mental health.  Or to not engage if it upsets them.  I've been in Fandom for a long time.  We might even be getting into "before you were born" territory for a couple of you.  It's supposed to be an escape.  It's supposed to be fun.  It's supposed to be a place where you can hang out with like-minded nerds, and talk about your favorite weird obsessions.  There is nothing better than finding a BFF that will hang out, together and alone, on an OTP Isle cause you're the only two not on the OTP mainland.

If it's not bringing you joy, then cut it out of your lives.  I've been thinking about that a lot in the last four-five years.  None of this shit matters. I got a life, and a job, and dog, and I don't have time for things that cause more stress in my life.  If logging onto Twitter/Reddit/Forum/Etc is going to cause stress, because it's nothing but people shitting my favorite fictional security blanket, then I'm gonna heel turn out the door.

As you should.  There's no reason to fight about this.  Especially with people who are just looking to go fifteen rounds.  I've never got hatedom, and I never will.  Just don't engage.  Go fucking touch grass and find something you actually like.  Put more joy back into the world.  It's shitty enough, don't add to the composite pile.

Anyone following any of the comics right now?

I am buying the Ms Marvel written by Iman (but I haven't read it yet, just have it), and the Capwolf and Howling Commandos mini-series.

That is kind of disappointing.  It seems like your standard "Steve got bit and gets turned into a werewolf" affair.  I was hoping for more "Steve is already a werewolf and living his best life" series.  But any Capwolf is good.

Right now I'm debating if I want to write my Avengers Boyband AU fic.  We've been kicking around the idea for a while, and with it being November, it feels like the time to start a draft.

That said, lolololooll, like I have a moment to myself to write things.

(seriously, feel for you @Cap having been finally dragged in here after avoiding it so long :sadno: :lol:)

I just want to watch my movie in peace.  It's exhausting, boys.  I get it.  There's blood in the waters, and everyone's in a frenzy.  And who doesn't love gossip?  Who doesn't love a good train wreck? And we all love watching the rich and powerful fail from grace.  (We also love watching people claw their way back, so that's why any talk of "Marvel is dead, just go kill it" feels premature.). This is fun.  Meltdowns are fun.

Until they're not.  And it's not fun being the one of the few to not say everything on their mind, at all times.  I have bunch of hot takes on your faves, but those are for me and me alone.

If this bombs like it’s looking to, instead of a franchise wars thread, the mods should just create a “Marvel Studios - What Went Wrong?” thread.

One.  The Franchise Wars Thread is not coming back.  I haven't been an excellent girl for five years here for that shit to come back. If I can hold my tongue, so can everyone else.  Be adults.

Two. We don't need a thread debating this.  The answer is very clear.  There were hit with a perfect storm of:

    • Greedy Bobs tried to overwork the golden goose with excessive Disney+ content
    • COVID wrecked their release date and production schedules, while inflating their budgets.
    • YouTube Fanboys are incapable of relating to any character that doesn't have a white dick.  Apparently Phase 4 wasn't "twice as good." (We are not debating this.  Do not respond or quote that.  I'm using Admin Powers to say the Quiet Part Out loud.)
    • WGA Strike shut down productions
    • SAG-AFTRA Strike shut down productions -- and is still going, and be prepared for things to not start up again until Later 2024 depending on what Studio has which actors in First Position.
    • Jonathan Majors is the biggest fucking disappointment of all time. Insert Tyra Gif.  And has put them in a position they can't just reshoot or edit around.

And it's not worth debating "How Can They Fix This", because their plans change every day, and we don't have access to what's really going on.  You're just spinning and spinning and spinning, and going no where.

The movies and shows are going to come out at some point.  They might or be not be good.  They might or might not make more after that.  That's all.  None of this is worth getting upset over, because, none of it matters.

I would suggest stay off this thread for your own mental health and enjoy the movie. Dont get influenced by what others are thinking/saying.

I won't front, this might be why this thread is the wild west, cause my mental health doesn't need this tomfoolery. I mean, does it really matter if they are kids movies or not?  Do you like them? Yes or no.  Do you enjoy them? Yes or no. That's all that matters.

Talking about other Marvel movies connected to The Marvels is off limits and off topic but constantly bringing up DC movies is okay. I would like to know the rules here?

What post is this in reference to?  You all need to be NARCs. It needs to be reported. Ignore and report. That is the fastest way to get a response from me.

Anyway, the standard policy is no discussion of leaks or spoilers. So we don’t encourage people to talk about how “well in the next movie there’s going to be this, because I read it based on a Spoiler Reddit Post.” That goes for both DC and Marvel films.

On the Monday or Tuesday before The Marvels release, we plan to update/clarify a couple of the forum rules. There will be a separate post on it. If any of you want clarifications on things, please PM me. We will try to address it then.

I also apologize because I basically haven’t been around all month. I had a lot of really crazy things happening in real life that just pulled me away. I had a huge shake up at work, that caused a lot of sleepless nights and entire body stress. Plus The Lewiston madness. And my grandmother being sick. And the dog just being the dog. There was a lot going on. It’s just been a long, terrible year.

We had great coverage of the Philly area before Eric peace'd out/had work conflicts.

Aside from that, we've had reporting from the Maine area from our very own HBIC @Cap and as I mentioned TalismanRing (not tagging her here since I just tagged her and it's probs rude to tag again so quickly 😉) will report from her area when she has the time/interest.

Did have a couple of others for a while but not much recently, no.

    ETA:

Should also add that @TwoMisfits will report screen reports from her neck of the woods.  Not seat reports, no.  But still of interest and value! 👍

The three issues I had when tracking:

    1. I lost or deleted a lot of my pre-Covid data. And even if I still had it, the markets change so much none of that would be worth looking at. So to start tracking the theaters again it would take at least six months to get any type of accurate comps because I’m just basically data mining until then.

    2. we only have a couple Regals and like one AMC in Boston. Honestly, most of the data could probably be received from one of the larger reports.

    3. The area is NOT pre sale heavy. Even before COVID, there would be like zero moment between Day One sales and Day Of Sales. So tracking in the north east would be more of a weekly thing than a daily thing.

It’s not the worst idea, and I don’t mind entertaining the idea of starting up again. I’m just not committing to anything until like December because of my job. I’ll probably grab some marvels data because it feels like something you should have.

  9. Gonna use this as the review thread, I guess.

We just got out with the niece.

The whole film is such a slam drunk. Looks beautiful, edited perfectly. The stage production for the tour looks stunning. Just stunning value. Good set list. I am not a Swifty, but my big take away was:

    1. I felt like “lol those people paid $2000 to be there, and for $20, I got the best seat in the house.”

    2. this is going to do huge numbers on streaming. It’s perfect background vibes. I would totally just toss this on again while I was doing the dishes or playing the Sims.

  11. Moderation:

Hello. Please move the discussion of Israel and Hamas to the Middle East Israel Palestine Thread  in the Politics Thread. The past two pages will be moved there once I get off mobile!

I would also note, that this is an incredibly complicated and delicate subject, that people have been fighting over for literally 300 years. And regardless of who you think is the aggressor in this situation, we can all, hopefully, agree that we want to see the latest aggression resolved as quickly as possible, and with the less amount of civilian lives lost.

Clean, Shaven (1993) C-80m. ★★★ D Lodge Kerrigan. Peter Greene, Robert Albert, Jennifer MacDonald, Megan Owen. Unusual, subtly chilling psychological drama about Peter (Greene), a schizophrenic released from an institution who is grasping for a human connection. Meanwhile, his young daughter has been put up for adoption by her mother, a cop, who’s investigating the brutal murder of another child and becomes convinced Peter is the culprit. A meditation on deep feelings of loss and alienation; not always easy to follow, but challenging, even haunting.▼Q

Heaven & Earth (1993) C-140m. ★★1⁄2 D: Oliver Stone. Tommy Lee Jones, Hiep Thi Le, Joan Chen, Haing S. Ngor, Debbie Reynolds, Dustin Nguyen, Conchata Ferrell, Vivian Wu, Dale Dye, Liem Whatley. Vietnamese woman’ s painful odyssey from a peaceful childhood in a peasant village to a lifetime of upheaval both in Vietnam and the U.S. This true story (based on two pub- lished memoirs by Le Ly Hayslip) tells of a woman forever caught between forces of North and South in her native country; be- tween the spiritual and the practical; be- tween Vietnamese and American ways. A jumbled narrative, difficult to watch at times, but writer-director Stone lets us share the character’ s emotional catharsis at the conclu- sion. Hayslip can be seen briefly as a jewelry broker; Jeffrey Jones appears unbilled as a priest. Panavision. [R]▼●Q

Mr. Nanny (1993) C-84m. ★1⁄2 😧 Michael Gottlieb. Terry ‘‘Hulk’’ Hogan (Bollea), Sherman Hemsley, Austin Pendleton, Rob- ert Gorman, Madeline Zima, David Johansen, Mother Love. Lamebrained comedy featuring Hogan as a struggling wrestler hired to look after a pair of spoiled, ignored rich kids (whom weirdo Johansen is plotting to kidnap). Strictly for die-hard fans of the Hulkster. Hemsley and Hogan are no threat to Clark and McCullough. [PG]▼●Q
