  1. Needing 500M to breakeven means that it needs 500M of box office to breakeven. That is after ancillaries. If something is below the breakeven point, that means failing to breakeven after ancillaries. It comes from the 2.5x rule of thumb which includes prod costs, marketing cost, other costs vs theatrical rev+ancillaries.
  2. This is not remotely how it works -- if something needs 500M to breakeven that is with ancillaries already baked in, so this is double counting them.
  3. “The numbers are bad now because people aren’t going to the movies as much” doesn’t make the numbers good.
  4. 180 is ~38th all-time adjusted OW. Couple other openings in similar ballpark: Fallen Kingdom 148M 2018 (35th) Minions 1 116M 2015 (40th) Transformers AoE 100M 2014 (40th)
  5. Got avatar ahead by 20%+ gross and I don’t think the atp discrepancy will be quite that large.
  6. Other 300+: dory frozen 2 TS4 PotCDMC IM3 T:RotF SMFFH gotg2 SW:RotS Minions Gru thor L&T Two towers Excluding McU, mostly the latter case of typical Hollywood sequels imo
  7. Respect the hustle I buy the “post pandemic moviegoing is depressed” theory now but it still only gets me to low 600s with xmas boost.
  8. I mean you know it’s like a decade too late to prevent this, right?
  9. Want to see other sats to get a sense of this being a strong marvel sat vs a weak vet effect — various holidays have sometimes been muted post-pandemic.
  10. He had a choice to act reasonable after the relatively short initial ban period was up and instead burnt that bridge down like a retreating Russian army
  11. Still do not see it hitting BP1’s DOM adjusted. 180*2.5 450, 140->380, 830M?
  12. Yeah I feel like the "no avengers until final phase of the saga" approach will prove to be a massive blunder, but... Oh well, nothing to do but wait
