The fun thing about discussing whether something is a “Kids ______” is that sometimes people mean “intended for kids (among others) to be able to enjoy and engage with” and sometimes people mean “primarily targeted at kids and therefore simplistic lower quality fare which adults should be vaguely embarrassed to like too much” and of course one usually doesn’t bother to distinguish clearly between those two very different concepts because that takes all the fun out of trolling people with the term in the first place.

No it doesn't apply equally to every film. Some have more geographical bias in appeal and some have less. Charlie is saying fableman is near the max on that axis and that seems quite plausible to me

Encanto has had monstrous streaming nums but missed 100M. I think Soul had really big potential but I wouldn’t expect the other two to hit 100M tbh.

Yeah BP is solid reception medium/medium bad BO. Quite a sequel plummet, but tbf, it is almost more of a spin-off given the lead change circumstances. If the others this year had done mcu normal (really “infinity saga normal” at this point) we’d be talking about how disappointing BP is, but since they both had pretty 😬 runs this feels like a relatively nice way to end the year. It’s at least the best performance of the 3 so it’s off the hook for anything more. Though the actual bright spot to end the year was gotg xmas as it turns out.

Strange World is bombing with awful reception and it has a queer main character. Some debate has been had over how much of the poor reception and BO are related to anti queer attitudes in the US vs other factors

I know it’s the case that you get more, the “I guess you might” part is how much more. Though I guess you only need ~2.5M ancillary boost for it to outweigh the theatrical rev so that seems almost guaranteed.

Tbf, 95M vs 100M is not really an important diff for profit calculations. I guess you might get more than 5M in increased ancillary profit from kicking into a different threshold on various contracts.
