Recent WB movies get plenty of praise around here, from myself included. Wonder Woman, Dunkirk, IT, RPO, etc. WB does try excessively to push "dark/edgy" angles with a lot of their tentpoles though, and most of the time it's laughably unnecessary. Case and point: that trailer for this movie.

If the movie is supposed to be darker than the recent Disney movie, why not let people know that from the marketing? Shouldn’t they want to set their movie apart?

Kipling's The Jungle Book has some mature and dark themes (namely abandonment - well represented in the 2016 movie) in it's stories but it's still essentially children's literature.  He wrote them for his daughter who died when she was 6.    These are not adult Rated R stories.

I guess I should just state for the record that I wasnt trying to argue in favor of an R-rated Jungle Book movie. I was just pointing out that if they did give this movie an R-rating, all the people making fun of the trailer for this movie would be ramping things up.

  3. I don’t know how the movie will turn out, but I’m already sick of all the people who are making jokes about this movie for being advertised as dark. While I’m not super familiar with the original Kipling stories, isn’t JB supposed to be dark? Seriously, just because Batman v Superman failed doesnt mean that movies can’t be dark ever again.

  4. Since Deadpool is currently what everyone is talking about, I figured I’d pull up this (https://mobile.twitter.com/WarnerBrosCA/status/997580082783940608?ref_src=twsrc^tfw&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fscreenrant.com%2Fteen-titans-go-deathstroke-deadpool%2F) for anyone who’s interested.

As I said before, it definitely seems safe to say that this movie is essentially supposed to be Deadpool for kids, which is funny when you consider that the character Deathstroke is no more kid friendly than Deadpool. Hell, he’s actually darker in some ways.

Or it's just random, I see the last 4 are all positive (including the LA Times and the NY Post).

I’m not saying it’s some kind of conspiracy, just that it’s something I’ve noticed from a number of other movies such as Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Blade Runner: 2049.

As as a side note, two more negative reviews have just been added.

  6. I have to admit, I’m impressed by how many positive reviews the movie is getting. When the reviews first started coming out a couple of weeks ago, I assumed that the best case scenario for this movie would be in the 70% range, but it’s currently at an 84% with a 7.3 average rating. Granted, the movie isn’t even at 100 reviews yet, so it could very well plummet to the 70s within the next couple of days, but it’s impressive how well the movie is holding on.

Here’s hoping the reviews for this movie can translate into some solid box office numbers. This March has been a pretty dead month for new releases.
