It isn't like some people didn't see it coming but they were shut down with the usual sexist this sexist that labelling.

Sorry, but this is BS. I see plenty of criticisms thrown THE MARVELS' (and CAPTAIN MARVEL's) way that aren't labeled sexist. It's the ones that obsess negatively about the gender of the lead/leads that get hit with that label - because that's sexism.

I think GHOSTBUSTERS 2016 is a bad movie. I've said so a number of times in private and publicly on social media. I have never once been called sexist for it because none of my complaints have anything to do with the gender of the characters.

Honestly think F4 should be right after Deadpool vs Cap. That has a far higher ceiling and the director really seems to be a huge fan of the material. If that cooks especially with the F4 being likely to be a new mainstay face of Marvel, Phase goodwill can creep back somewhat.

I think Fantastic 4 is a disappointment waiting to happen. It's an old book and there aren't a lot of current fans. The 2005 movie did OK but wasn't well-liked as evidenced by how the sequel did, and of course we don't need to talk about the Trank reboot.

It's just not a title like X-Men that has shown its popular in multiple mediums for multiple generations.

Why shouldn’t Feige maybe step down? He had a great run but this is the guy that thought Eternals was Oscar worthy, Ant Man was a banger, Captain Marvel was going to be the new face of the MCU

What do you expect him to say? If Kevin Feige is talking in public it's to sell their slate.

"Eternals is too long and the characters aren't clicking, Ant-Man's in rough shape, and we're still not sure what to do with Captain Marvel. Please buy tickets!"

Thank you. Then how did the guy above see the movie. Plus he is breaking the embargo. Looking at his profile, he seem to run some MCU fan site. Could be making it up.

Wouldn't shock me if they started screening it yesterday and we're close enough to opening - especially internationally - that I'm sure some theaters already have access to the film and have run it for "QC"/staff screenings.

I am flabbergasted by why they are not doing it. They did it for Guardians since that had meh pace and they did what is needed to amp it up. Assume Marvels is not Guardians, its not going to be any worse than where things are. I dont see any point in this strategy.

I hope to be proven wrong - I like DaCosta - but I don't think Disney has all that much faith in THE MARVELS in terms of quality. They were confident in GUARDIANS 3 and knew/figured if they showed it early, the reaction would be very positive. They don't seem to feel the same way this time out.

I just posted it in the MARVELS thread as well but as far as I'm aware they still haven't screened the whole movie for critics yet, just half an hour or so for junket press this week. That isn't a sign of studio confidence.

AND they only invited people who were big marvel fans because the questionaire we had to fill out asked if we had seen a list of movies that were mostly MCU movies with a few DC movies. when I signed up i got approved for the screening, I opened another account and tried to sign up but only clicked "having seen two" of the movies on the list and i was not approved, so they really were only wanting MCU/CBM fans to attend this screening, and the movie didnt really hit much with anyone save for a few moments here and there

Should point out this is standard practice and it's less about only inviting Marvel super fans as people interested in big budget action movies, it just so happens comic book movies dominate that segment. They want the feedback from people likely to check out the film normally so if someone's only seen 2 movies on the list (of I'm guessing 8-12 titles) they don't qualify as a person likely to see this type of movie anyway.

It's possible to over-qualify yourself too - people who check too many boxes also tend to be rejected.

If they somehow make enough money to do a second and third, David Gordon Green needs to go.

I think David Gordon Green wants to go.

Out of hiding...d-does this mean Exorcist II is canon with her setting off at the end with Richard Burton to be a spiritual healer or whatever?

Tagging this to be safe but it's not an ending spoiler:

    Spoiler

Chris wrote a book about the events of the first film which pissed Regan off and now they're estranged. Chris doesn't know where Regan is.

When you take into account that pretty much every day and date movie after 2021 has been a dud so far, Universal's decision becomes more clear. I think they know they're sitting on a dud like the last two Halloween sequels.

It's because Peacock is desperate for content and Jason Blum's happy to negotiate a big upfront payout. I think THE EXORCIST: BELIEVER would also be day-and-date if not for some contractual shenanigans with Morgan Creek.

    Is this true @ViewerAnon?

I don't think SAW X had any public test screenings (if it's the Oren Koules story I'm thinking of he was probably talking about the original SAW and how it scored a major theatrical release).

  10. Because this screened over a longer period of time than most comic book movies (which have one or two screenings normally centered around the premiere to generate hype), I don't know if it'll follow the standard "start as high as it can go, then dip lower as more reviews come in" trajectory. We'll see.
