On a side note I can see a handful of films in the $200M-$300M range: Ant Man 2, Fallout, Venom, Halloween, Bohemian, Grinch, Beasts 2, Ralph 2, Aquaman, Bumblebee, and Spiderverse. Poppins and Robin will be at $300M+
'Where the hell are people getting Christopher Robin at $300M+?!! I mean, I loved the trailer and all but no way does this movie get past $300M domestic. If it gets to $200M, that would be more than beating expectations.

They never imported this movie (like many others) - for being a flop - so I couldn't see it.
So I can't get the reference, unfortunately.
Don't be sad, you're very fortunate not to have to sit through this movie.

Yes and no. I live in the capital and watch movies in the best theatre - but it is a small, shitty country (Bulgaria) and we don't get that much good movies in cinemas. So I go to the cinema 2 or 3 times a week, on average - and even that is because I like seeing good-looking movies more than once.
Some years ago though I went to live in Dublin, for 18 months - with the sole intention of seeing movies, which made the Shay "the first cinema tourist in the world". Now, there - I was watching like TWO movies A DAY!! (Though Ireland is also a small, shitty country.)

During that long flashing scene in I2... I just looked away.
Thanks to the warning by the theater that posted that note at the ticket window.Hmmm...seems really stupid to include a scene that might induce seizures, especially in a kid's movie. Might have a slight negative effect on the box office.

What's the record for biggest DOM yearly total for a studio?
Disney- $2.870 billion. (2016) That's just for 2016 Disney releases. $3 billion even for all the money Disney raked in from Jan 1, 2016- Dec 31, 2016 for 2015/2016 releases.
So far for this year, Disney is at approximately $1.8 billion.

Ha, piggybacked on I2 and they STILL couldn't get to $100m!

Completely wild to think about really. Who knows what may have happened if Johnny Depp hadn't single handedly turned the first POTC film into a shocking phenomenon and Pixar and Lasseter had gone their own way back in '05 as was looking extremely likely at the time.
You mean Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo wasn't cutting it for Disney?!

Hahaha, just saw the trailer for Alpha. I needed that good laugh. Only thing missing was a "Based on a True Story" tag!

I must have been the only person in the world that has not watched TLK.
For shame!

I'm not convinced The Lion King is beating Avatar. I have it doing over 600M, but 700M is a bridge too far.
Yep, sorry, but no matter how well-liked and nostalgic people are for The Lion King, it's still no Star Wars.

Is it just me or does this summer seem a little underwhelming for some particular reason? Maybe it's the fact that everything's a sequel this summer except for Skyscraper and Christopher Robin.

I could see WW2 opening at around $175-180m.

So I'm just curious, after everyone was getting wet with a $200m+ opening just by going off previews, how satisfied is everyone with $180? I personally think that's amazing, much more than I expected honestly. Forum just gets a bit overzealous too early sometimes.
A little disappointed but I'll take $180 which is more than most of the people around here were predicting.

FUCK!
Dammit, that's what I was afraid of but I didn't think Uni would do it this weekend!
Universal should double-bill Blockers with Fallen Kingdom!

you are right But I just had to say it. Ava resume speaks for itself. 1 misfire doesn't discredit the four critical Acclaim movies she has done in the critically acclaimed TV show she created. I just hate how people act like one film defines your whole career as a filmmaker. If that was the case then some of the top filmmakers would be done.
It doesn't but this was her first big budget film and she flubbed it. And WB/DC gave her New Gods, big mistake.

O8's drop really isn't good for a movie that should be WOM driven. Right on par with Ghostbusters. It didn't even get hurt much by FD, unless the actuals go significantly down.
WOM on O8 is that it's alright but nothing special.

In other weekend news, Adrift sputtered out. Probably get a little above $30m for its domestic run. Hotel Artemis dropped off the map and Hereditary, wow, Hereditary held up amazingly well. A 48% drop for a horror movie, especially one with a D+ CinemaScore, is pretty darn awesome.

you guys realize awit would have done a respectable 120-130m if racism didn't exist right? it was sabotaged before it even came out, you can see that from the disproportionate dislikes on all its youtube videos
No, your original statement was that it would have had a respectable BO if it wasn't for racism and in fact there was an active sabotage campaign against the movie that would have prevented it from being a hit even if it was the greatest movie in the world.

how was it not an effect when countless people PERSONALLY said they weren't seeing the movie because they were against the race of the characters. why are you guys denying this??????????????????
That's probably true, the same as countless people being against Independence Day because it starred Will Smith. The problem is using racism to explain away the poor performance of a film when other factors, namely it was just a badly made movie, were the primary causes of the movie bombing.

there's a demonstrable trend of racist backlash against book characters being cast as poc in adaptations of those books. racist people tend to imagine the characters as being their own race and get mad when the character is different in the adaptation. i'm really not saying any new information
Yes, who knew that Madeleine L'Engle was such a racist magnet. All her fans, just racist, racist, racist.
-
Sooooo...lemme get this straight, racism didn't keep Black Panther from getting nearly $700m but it kept AWiT from getting $130m. Okay, got it, thanks!

At this point, no way does FK get more than $135m next weekend. Too many factors against and now it has a possible $100 second weekend for I2 against it.
-
So, next weekend, we could possibly be looking at two $100m films in the top 10, the first time in film history if I'm not mistaken.
