  1. What a terrible idea for a category. I have no respect for the oscars, its pretty obvious that they only have a very limited view on movies as art and their system is flawed from the ground up.

This category sounds like a stand-in for saying "We think your movies are worthless but heres an award just to make you happy". What a joke.

  2. I think this movie looks pretty good, I can see it making decent numbers. The trailers convey a nice atmosphere that is unique among superhero movies, the cinematography looks decent and the dynamic between Venom and Eddie seems really good. And Venom himself looks very well realized. Cant agree with the complaints that it looks generic at all (aside from the villain, so far he does seem very uninspired), it looks much more somber and moody than other superhero flicks, I really hope the movie itself goes for that tone and is just as much a drama/character study as it is an action movie.

I really like the quote from the first teaser trailer: "Everyone´s got their thing. Maybe its a break-up. A death. An accident. Whatever it is - you used to be one thing. Now your something else." Thats a pretty profound line, I hope its a glimpse at what the movie will be going for. Though it might just be a line made specifically for the teaser.

  3. Avatar is such a masterpiece, I vividly remember watching it in the cinema for the first time. An incredible piece of art with a depth to it that far too few people appreciate.

Its always ridiculous when people on reddit or elsewhere claim Avatar had "no cultural impact" just because people arent making memes about it, completely ignoring the fact that cultural impact isnt defined by stuff like that. The movie changed cinema by introducing 3D to the world, something that almost every major blockbuster that came afterward adapted. Avatar changed cinema in other ways aswell, especially regarding stuff like world building or even how CGI gets used. The movie world today would be quite different today if it had not existed.

People also seem to forget (especially people that were very young when it happened) just how much of a cultural event the release of Avatar was, the hype for it was unprecedented and reached far beyond the general movie world and hasnt been matched since. Literally everyone was talking about this movie. To say that the movie has no presence in the minds of people is a ridiculous sentiment. Theres a very good reason for why Avatar has reached a box-office success that no other movie since got even close to reaching.

Im really interested to see how the sequels turn out. James Cameron has two of the best sequels of all time under his belt (Aliens, Terminator 2) and otherwise is of course a director that has proven himself to be a visionary time and time again. Its hard to say if for the sequels the same kind of hype can be captured as for the first one (probably not, but we will see what Cameron has in store) and the sequels will release to a quite different movie world with a movie-goer audience that has also changed alot. It seems to me that alot of the movie-goers today prefer Marvel-esque fast food movies to actual quality art, I will be interested in seeing how Camerons work will perform in such a climate.

Its very possible that from the moment the first trailer hits and the movie-goers see the title "Avatar 2" on the big screen, when people start to vividly remember just what an experience the first one was, that the hype will again reach enormous levels. We will see.

Either way, Im looking forward to Avatar 2 alot.

Hum, that's interesting...I wonder how they're going to do that.  I can't wait to see how Carrwy will portray that character without looking like a buffoon. Robotnik is evil, unless they're going to give him the same personality from the Boom cartoon.

Carrey has a decent acting range, I wouldnt be worried.

This project is all kinds of weird though. But so is the Sonic brand so who knows. If they go for a similar kind of humor like the LEGO movie, I guess it might turn out alright? But I agree with some of the previous posters, this does feel like a movie that would have come out in a less inspired time in cinema history.

  5. The second trailer looked really nice. Promises solid characters and solid action, I like how visceral it looks. But Im not a big fan of the director and it could still be that the second trailers tone is very misleading compared to the final product, we will see. I thought Predators was a worthy Predator sequel and an interesting expansion of the franchise. Im curious wether or not this one will be able to top it.
