Just got done watching CODA and decided to check the first day sales for FB in the Salt Lake Valley again. It's a mixed/not great bag.
The Cinemark Sugarhouse I normally track has gone from 8 tix sold (six screenings) seven hours ago to 10 tickets now. Blech.
The PLFs are faring a little better. Here are the counts for the prime evening slot.
Jordan Commons: 38 (+ 17 from earlier today)
Farmington: 17 (unchanged)
Layton: 16 (+16)
Draper: 12 (+6)
Century 16: 12 (+3)
Spanish Fork: 60 (+ 17)
Not good, but at least better. And I don't know what is going on in Spanish Fork, but FB is within shouting distance of The Batman there. 🤔
In sum, I really thought there would be more movement by now, especially since Utah has always been known as a great HP market (for several years we were #1 in per capita ticket sales) but it is what it is.
CODA was great though.

This achieved exactly what it set out to do.
Lighthearted, funny and entertaining throughout with two very likeable leads. And plenty of Channing’s general attractiveness on show.
I just saw a gif with that
Spoiler"Why are you so handsome?"
exchange and was sold right there. 😆

Is that decent for Beasts?
Honestly, I'd like to see it doing a little better, but Cinemark isn't doing it any favors either by not even having it listed yet on the main header at the top of their page, which is strange since Sonic and Father Stu are there. Hopefully, that will be updated by this evening and we'll have some good reactions coming out of London as well.
The only metric I have to compare it with is Batman which sold 17 tix in the first hour at the Sugarhouse Cinemark, which is the main theater I track, but of course that's skewed by the fan screenings on Tuesday and Wednesday burning off some of the demand. The expert trackers on here will have a lot more info later tonight though.

It sucks because my main interest for this movie was Supergirl
I think WB will have better luck with this casting than they've had with Ezra Miller so far.

Mini update from Salt Lake Sugarhouse-
Moribus tickets sold % for Thursday night has shot up to 8.57% but that's mainly because it lost one of it's biggest screens, which I guess is going back to to Lost City. It did add 8 more tickets though, for a total of 29. Still too small for any comps.
FB has been on sale since, what, 10:00 AM? and a total of 8 tickets have been sold, all to one group. The Cinemark XDs around town that I checked are showing 0, 6, 9, 17, and 21 tickets sold for the prime evening show, with the one outlier being Spanish Fork (south part of the Salt Lake Valley), which has sold a rock solid 43.

He may be a decent actor but he was always a terrible choice to play Barry Allen, but then this Barry Allen bears no resemblance to the one in the comics, so... 🤷♂️
It's just a bonus that he's an idiot offscreen as well.

I was going to update Morbius in Salt Lake City, but right now it's crickets at the Cinemark Sugarhouse. 21/442 for preview night. Two tickets sold since my last update, 19 over the past two weeks. The expectations bar is set so low now that even horrible reviews probably won't hurt this, and if they're the 'so bad it's good' kind, they might even help.
I'm more curious about screen counts for this weekend. I'm guessing Dune and Belfast will return, but does Coda get a wide release? And what about King Richard? Normally you'd expect a Best Actor win to generate some traction, but... 🤨

Did I miss the Batman numbers?
The unbearable weight of this massive blockbuster always causes the WB numbers to come in last.

Lost City sales for preview night are still pretty tepid in Salt Lake (six tickets sold thus far at the theater I track), but tonight's Fandango screenings are doing extremely well. At the three large PLFs I checked, two are at 90%+ and the third is over 80%.
Hopefully WOM will generate some good momentum as we head into next week. It looks like a fun ride.

A $4.9m Thursday would represent a -15% drop from Wednesday and a -42% drop from last Thursday.
The start of March Madness yesterday probably accounted for at least some of that drop.

Do we know how many schools are on spring break this week compared to the coming weeks?
If relevant, Deadline will frequently post those numbers when they're previewing an upcoming weekend. I can tell you that here in Salt Lake City, college kids were out last week, and Salt Lake I.S.D. is out next week. Business as usual this week.
-
Salt Lake not jumping on the Morbius train yet. Currently only 2 tix out of 442 sold for preview night at the Cinemark Sugarhouse.
Lost City and Sonic are looking equally dismal with a total of eight tickets sold between them.

The Batman Sunday night report, Salt Lake Cinemark Sugarhouse.
Final sales for shows through 7:00 PM.
Today: 535
Last Sunday: 718
Week over week change: -25.5%
Comp using last Sunday's national total: $25.43M
So obviously, I'm not gonna bite on that comp, but I also think WB is up to their usual shenanigans with a predicted drop down to $18.6. I'm going to stay conservative and go with a Sunday finish of $21-21.5 for a fantastic second weekend of $68.5-69M.
Now on to the important business of watching Spielberg's WSS remake for the first time. 💃

Oh man. Way too young. One of my favorite actors. Body Heat, Broadcast News, Children of a Lesser God, Altered States, A.I.... he left an amazing cinematic legacy. R.I.P.

I'm not the demo at all for this, but yeah, that was catchy as hell. I hereby revoke my grumpy face from last night's ticket report. (Even Gotham needs some sunshine every now and then.)

Saturday evening update for The Batman, Salt Lake Cinemark Sugarhouse.
Final sales for shows up to 7:00 PM.
Today: 430 (15% bump vs. yesterday at the same time.)
One week ago at 7:00 PM: 667 (35.6% drop)
Comp to one week ago: $27.86M
Despite losing half of its showings in the biggest auditorium to BTS Permission to Dance (🤨),The Bat held up remarkably well today. SLC seems to be over-indexing so I don't trust that comp, but this movie loves to surprise, so...

Salt Lake City Sugarhouse Cinemark midday report. The Batman final sales for showtimes through 3:00 PM.
Last Friday: 233 tickets sold
Today: 150 " "
Current week over week fall: 36%
Most favorable comps are still to come with the 5:00-9:00 PM showings, so I feel pretty confident that this will end the night with a sub 40% drop.

As of 7:25 PM MST, Salt Lake Sugarhouse has sold 472 tickets across all showtimes for the Bat versus a final yesterday of 896. There are three showings left and even if not another ticket was sold, the drop today would only be 47.4%. I'm guessing when all is said and done we'll be somewhere around 43-44%.
Seems like a pretty great first Monday hold.
Update: 8:20 PM drop is now at 44.5%.

Whats going on with supergirl?
I bet they've got Christina Hodson working on a script, and if The Flash (and Sasha) are received well, we'll probably get an announcement before Christmas.

I gotta say, I absolutely loved that last trailer. All the jokes landed for me. As a long-time Krypto stan, I will be there opening night!

any sunday update?
Yes, sir. Here's some tea from Salt Lake City, and I will be using 7:00 PM MST data as that showing of The Bat is already sold out. Ticket sales today at the Sugarhouse Cinemark are actually running 7% AHEAD of yesterday's counts (718 Sunday vs. 667 Saturday) and that's despite a paralyzing pre-dawn snowstorm that shut down most of the city during the morning. Tonight's remaining shows are all selling briskly, so it's unlikely we'll go negative for the day; absolute worst case is we end flat. All of which leads me to believe that the predicted 35% drop isn't just conservative, it's NUTS.
Here's a tale of WOM in three days, all recorded at 7:00 PM.
Friday: 485 tix sold
Saturday: 667 " "
Sunday: 718 " "
🤡 run, incoming?

The bad news: Scientists discover that traveling through the Speed Force can cause strange behavioral side effects.
DC, man. It's never dull. 😝
