for free to Chinese audience again?
Does Soul prove piracy doesn't kill a movie in China given how great its legs were?

If they are moving it to July 9th, then why not a straight theatrical release with a window? Theaters will have opened by then and capacity restrictions likely loosened.
Maybe for US but not every country has the same vaccination speed.

This movie has taken care of itself for sure.

It’s interesting that the first two shows have been real duo affairs. Then we get Loki and Ms Marvel, which look like they’ll have a pretty singular focused protagonist. And then Hawkeye is titled like a solo but will actually have more of a pair dynamic I suspect.
And I think Secret Invasion should be ensemble cast.

The sentence "where there are lies everywhere" is a bit harsh tho. I'm sure she means the goverment, but some citizen might misunderstood it. The sentence needs to be clirified a bit, because I mean everyone at least lie for sometime, but that doesn't mean everyone in china is a liar or fake 😅
Topics like this are sensitive, especially today when there is so much resentment between the east and the west. If they still want Nomadland released in China, Zhao Ting should make an apology, after the Oscar of course. If not, that's ok too and Eternals should still be fine releasing in China.

Not seen them, so obviously has no opinion on the bad part, but the brand is so strong that depending on what you mean by flop I am not sure I agree.
Suicide Squad was a nice success, BvS OW got so big that it got out of flop territory (again depending of your definition) just by the strength of it.
I think WW84 would have went by with the strength of the goodwill from the first one opening (plus of the genre and DC branding), same for Mulan.
We would find people saying the same of Aladdin or Beauty online if they were released under Mulan scenario (Mulan RT score being better than those) and they were billion dollar movies.
It's not about my opinions. These two's audience ratings are super low across global platforms: CS, IMDB, Douban, Maoyan. That's very telling.

Mulan and WW84 are just bad. They would flop at BO under normal circumstances anyways.
I think BW, FF9 or no time to die would do much better but studios want to save the good ones for post-pandemic BO.

Thinking ¥5.5mn Monday for WW84.
Falling behind Bath Buddy on 4th day. Who would have seen that coming?

Douban & Maoyan
MoS - 7.1 & ~
BvS - 6.8 & 8.0
WW - 7.1 & 8.6
JL - 6.4 & 8.6
AQM - 7.6 & 9.3
Shazam - 6.3 & 7.9
WW84 - 6.7 & 8.0
so it's very close to BvS(OW*1.67 multiple) and Shazam(1.43). It looks like $35-40M lifetime after $24M opening.
Even this prediction is too high. Both Maoyan and TPP dropped to 7.9

Is it being review bombed? seems quite weird. That douban score is so low.
Pretty much so.

I’m getting strong vibes of J:TNL from almost exactly a year ago, which went on to do fine reception/business DOM and OS-C.
I feel like (non-MCU) HW sequels have been really struggling here for quite a while now, even several years pre-covid. Can’t think of one off the top of my head where the first movie did some decent business (say top 50 yearly in China) and the sequel had a higher share of HW gross for its year than the first movie did.
Could just be subconsciously cherry-picking though.
JW? But mostly yes, sequel effect doesn't quite work in China outside MCU.

Just use the ignore feature and you don’t have to see comments from them. It’s the best feature on the site.
No, best feature would be "block user" lol

It sure has been fascinating watching certain users on this forum just beaming at every negative review or bad outcome for this film. Just fascinating.
I don't understand how listing Douban and Maoyan scores offended you?

BTW even Taopiaopiao rating of The Rescue is 8.9.
Opening is down IMO but can have a good run till CNY.
At least WW84 is higher on Douban: 6.7 vs 6.4

Douban 6.7
Maoyan 8.0
TPP 8.0
Expect leg worse than Shazam.

It wasn't 8.1 on TPP. Douban isn't a good indicator of WOM.
Yeah I think both captain marvel and the 1st wonder woman are higher on TPP.

Captain Marvel was 7.0
Captain Marvel and the first Wonder Woman are stable at 7.0/7.1 on Douban while WW1984 should drop to mid 6.x eventually. Female superheroes are not typically well received in China and this one seems even worse.
-
Douban 7.1
TPP 8.1
WoM is pretty bad at start.

At this rate, it'll be lower than Croods 2.

Yes, and 90M in 2017 was a worse result than 63M in 2013. So if both saw a similar decline in strength of performance, WW84 would be a bit below Croods 2.
CBM got a huge boost in China thanks to marvel. Should take that into account.

But a recent avoidance of any Hollywood films, no?
I don't see such a factor. Croods 2 performed just fine as an animated picture.

Is it possible to go back on this?

So, pretty much all the movie has left is WoM. Doubt it's going to be good enough to help the movie tbh. Outside of Aquaman, every other recent DC release had mediocre to negative WoM.
Even WoM can't help much. Piracy comes one week after its opening.

None of us expect BW to have the exact same legs. My point is piracy is not necessarily deadly.
