  4. This is true. 76% of K-12 schools were out for GvK Friday. Not sure how today compares, definitely lower, but I know in some places, the last day of school is essentially a non-school day. Just yearbook signings, checkouts, assemblies, class parties and whatnot. Today is the last day in Denver, so that’s probably the case here. Still might not really help morning/early afternoon showings, but families and high schoolers could still go to them if they really want to. So I guess if AQP has slightly better walkup business than GvK, it could go even higher. But not holding my breath for 13M
  5. A Quiet Place Friday Showings Denver 3890 tickets sold in 15 theaters, 3381 tickets sold in 9 theaters for comp. GvK comp: 11.8M A Quiet Place is just barely outpacing GvK's Friday showings in the equivalent theaters. This won't exactly be a 1:1 comp because of more theaters being open, capacity restrictions, and the PWP comparison. But it is a good sign that the 9 theaters are about equal with what GvK was doing with some theaters still closed in the area. I'd guess that PWPs are much less of a factor with 2 major releases, and people becoming more comfortable going to see the movie with strangers. Not sure exactly where to pin this, but I wouldn't be surprised with 12M+. Really depends how much the ~700 theaters that weren't open previously can make up for the possible discrepancy in PWPs.
  6. I’d say it’s more of a coincidence than anything. So many different situations in play between the two. Different theater counts, capacity restrictions, PWPs, and there were some theaters for GvK OD that didn’t open their doors until late afternoon. Some may say there’s no such thing as coincidences though…

But it did do really well, it more than doubled. All things considered, it looks fine against Maleficent. I'll go with 1.45M.

I took out the GvK comp because the last day of counting was a different situation than A Quiet Place, plus I think these comps are enough to go off of. Invisible Man comp came back to earth, but that's good because it is in general agreement with the other ones. I'm surprised that the IT 2 comp is quite a bit ahead of the other comps, but these do indict that we're getting a 4M-5M Thursday. I'll go with 4.3M in account of no Canada and capacity restrictions.

Seems like it's doing fine, especially if it's pretty backloaded like A Quiet Place.

But Maleficent tripled from Wednesday to Thursday, so Cruella needs to do the same to keep pace. It'll be very hard for it to do since Maleficent tripled because those 2 theaters didn't have showtimes up until the last 2 days.

  12. I am not adjusting for lack of Canada, but I should note that one of my top 2 theaters never put showtimes up until T-1 days for Maleficent, so I’ve had to adjust for that. It’s Highlands Ranch where Cruella has been doing extremely well. Same with one other theater where it has been doing decent enough to possibly hurt the comp.

  18. I’ve just been putting the full capacity of seats available. Not really that big of a deal to me honestly
  19. Depends on the theater, but in my experience, 2D and most PLF(excluding IMAX), can be somewhere around 50% because the rows are spaced enough to only have to block seats next to them. IMAX is too close so they block seats in front, behind, and next to them. I think Regal is blocking out every other row for most auditoriums regardless.

The past 2 days have been good. The IT 2 comp looks good, but keep in mind that capacity limits and some theaters being closed aren't taken into account.
  22. The growth pattern is certainly what I’m most interested in, and is what’s most important. We really don’t know how AQP should be selling, which is why I’ve been careful to not really comment on whether it’s doom and gloom or not. It’s annoying, but especially during these times, we just have to be patient.
  23. I kinda wonder if the NBA playoffs could hurt A Quiet Place here, at least on Thursday. Denver has a game at 8:30 on Thursday. The NBA skews younger with its fanbase, and the first movie had a core audience of under 35. Anecdotal, but I’m waiting to buy A Quiet Place tickets until I know what time the Utah Jazz game is on Saturday. Not the exact same case for Denver since they know the time, but if people wanna watch the game, their options are limited. Also GvK just might not be a very good comp. It’s obviously already not perfect, and the Fandango report makes me pause a bit. Tbf we don’t what that means in relation to full presales, especially considering it’s Memorial Day weekend and relatively more people could be using Fandango now. But just something to think about because you could just look at Porthos’ comp and it looks way better.
