In 3 markets Venom 2 has opened so far, its handily ahead NTTD. Of course none of them is Europe and other than Italy, Spain & France neither will really get close to NTTD as well but that can be easily set off by just China.
V2 will be targeting $800-900M WW, NTTD most likely be $750M+.
Wait so Venom is being released in China now? Then yeah you're probably right considering the last movie made like 300m there. It's still not MCU though (yes I'm moving them goal posts 😂)

I beg to differ.

Uh...if you think Bond is beating Spider-Man then go all the way and make a club, because that is one hell of a claim.

It has already reached the ultimate point of overkill: people are now making WTF references to ti because they thinks it makes them look cool and hip.

look I liked the movie, but if you think the studio is going to be happy or not notice a weak domestic gross and this being one of the lowest attended Bond movies, I don’t know what to say

Uhhhhh...
You *are* aware of the current state of the wizarding world franchise, right?
Its lowest grossing spinoff was still twice as successfull as one of Star wars' Spin off movies.

you sure about that?
Yes. Cinema have been here for almost 100 years, they ain't going anywhere. Would have thought the last few weeks proved this

absolutely wild stuff.
Time for a change clearly. LolIt makes me laugh because Americans were trying to tell JK Rowling how to run her franchise too, and how to think for that matter. We saw how quickly they killed Star Wars 🤣
The fact that Bond's going to end up surpassing F9 after Spectre's performance is a testament to the franchise's staying power.

They need to finally embrace the Bond is a code name theory. Bring Dalton and Brosnan back for the next one to pass the torch to a new Bond. Instant $300 million US.
No

It's a little silly to do so as the world is a very big place. Without getting into the minutia of how much each country gives back to the studio, films like Bond, especially like Bond, know the money comes from all over the world. So even though I'm sure they'd like to make more than the 150 mill or so its going to rake in from the US market, they know full well that it plays well in many different regions outside of the US. And if it really does make 700 mill and become this years top grossing film, I don't really think they are going to be too worried or disappointed that Bond made 75% of it's money outside of the US.
Yeah the last thing British (or any Bond fan for that matter) wants most is Bond to become Americanised. If we allowed the young American millennials and Gen Zers to have their way with Bond he'd probably lose all his masculinity. We would just be left with a woke/cringe inducing Bond, or even a Jane Bond, we don't want this
Either that or they'd milk it for all it's worth with spinoffs every year to the point of killing it

great overseas numbers doesn't make the US opening good
But it makes it irrelevant. Bond is about to slap all the marvel movies this year without the need of a domestic gross

I think you misunderstand me. I dont want Moore type Bond films. I prefer Connery and Craig's portrayal. My fav Bonds are From Russia with Love and Skyfall. I hated Moonraker as it was way to campy. I personally love the tone of the Bourne first 3 films. I hated Freeguy.
However times are changing and people want more escapism for cinema going and I believe they will lean into that more for the next Bond. They will still try and keep it cool and prestigious and keep that European audience.
They wouldn't necessarily need to change the tone if they produce great movies. Skyfall and Casino Royale had a great script to back up their grit. I'm all good with some gadgets but I don't want him to become OP like Iron man and we don't want a pretty CGI fest bond movie. People say the Craig films lost some of their competitiveness in the action department but I'd still argue casino Royale has one of the best chase scenes in any blockbuster.

The world ends at the US border unless you are aware. Local sports are called "World Championships".
Is that basketball or baseball?

All this doom, gloom and tips for what Bond should do next is funny considering there's a likely chance it ends up being the highest grossing Western movie of the year so far.

yes the original two films were primarily comedy but they still took the ghosts/threats seriously and had a few genuinely creepy moments. They weren't full slapstick goofiness like the 2016 movie
Yeah when I think of the original Ghostbusters, I remember it being creepy. There was comedy in it but it's wasn't in your face to the point of not taking any of the ghosts seriously. I was a kid though I guess
1 hour ago, marveldcfox said:If this does only Free Guy or Jungle Cruise numbers, it will be considered a disappointment. Ghostbusters is an established franchise releasing in a period when movies are doing decently if decently reviewed.
I feel it could be another Suicide Squad situation where the stench from the last film will hinder this

There's number of franchises that do what Bond does and that's not spying. We see less of spying everywhere (including Bond, BW, MI) and more crazy stunts, jet set locations and gadgets employed to thwart OTT villainous plots and doomsday devices. It isn't even the franchise with the coolest car (that's F&F). In short, Bond lost what used to be the series uniqueness.
Bond may not have the ridiculous car chases of F&F or a Tom Cruise up its sleeve but it's always got that elegance. There's a prestigiousness with Bond movies which will allow it to still be making money long after franchises like F&F eventually die out. They've never been the biggest movies of their times or even up there, but they will never stop being a relevant franchise and there's not many out there that have stood that test of time

I also feel Bond got over hyped because it was the first movie to be delayed due to the pandemic. Had there been no pandemic, it probably would have just come and gone without much disappointment but given the circumstances there were more eyes watching this performance

Do people know it's a direct sequel? Because I watched the trailer and I had no idea until I've read it around here.
Yeah they have the same Bond girl from the last one aswell as having Waltz in the trailer. It seemed to close to spectre for it not to be associated with it. I'm British and I'm yet to see this because I refuse to pay to watch Spectre first
