  1. It's the Apple grey area of not knowing how much they expected to make giving two veteran directors such abnormally large budgets. It's not a double standard if the context of the release is completely different.
  2. Yes people are overreacting, I find the complaining about budgets as if they are the main problem with Hollywood odd. In Disney and DC's case, most of their flops would lose money even if the budget was cut in half, because there was just zero interest from the getgo. The key to making flops like Indiana Jones, The Marvels and Aquaman successful would just be to simply not make it. As for cases like Mission: Impossible and Fast X, we know for certain those are down to strict COVID protocols, so the complaining as if it isn't an isolated incident outside of the studio's control is again, really weird.
  3. You're right although FNAF being successful and thus a long running franchise is more valuable to theatres in the long run.
  4. Superhero movies are becoming more and more uncool to general audiences with each passing day, I wouldn't be surprised if Aquaman 2 would've done sizably better if it released at the start of the year compared to the end, as this year has done so much damage to the genre.
  5. That doesn't explain the 78% drop, word of mouth was going to be toxic regardless.
  6. What an abysmal past two months for the box office this has been. FNAF being the shittiest movie I've seen all year whilst also being one of the biggest post-summer hits, if not the biggest, is just the cherry on top.
  7. I always come back to this tweet, it's honestly gonna happen at this point
  8. They seem pretty firm in their approach of longer theatrical to D+ windows, even Indiana Jones got a super long one.
  9. I agree that Black Panther 3 will be less successful than 2 but that has nothing to do with whether 2 was successful, and no making $850M off a $250M budget is not meh. If people here felt the movie was boring and underwhelming then just say that, because I'm sorry these arguments are beyond forced.
  10. The Marvels being significantly hurt by the strike would make more sense if pre-sales started well and tapered off over time, but they were abysmal from day 1. Nobody was even considering giving this movie a chance, it's the definition of DOA.
  11. Not sure what MS do with Brie's existing contract. Captain Marvel is a dead brand, they would've had a leg to stand on if this was well received but sub-300M + B range cinemascore means there's pretty much nothing they can do to save it, the few mega-fans who gave this film a chance and disliked it will not be back for a sequel.
  12. 61% Looks like The Marvels might be on The Flash trajectory and stay fresh after all
  13. People were saying that critics would be overly nice to this film just because culture war, but I never bought that.
  14. I mean reviews and WOM definitely did help D&D, it was tracking to do much worse than it actually did.
  15. The "hacked to pieces in the editing room" criticisms are an awful sign since it's part of why reviews for BvS, Suicide Squad and Justice League were so bad.
  16. Love and Thunder reviews were mid, the "its legitimately bad" consensus I feel only became a thing well after it came out, but it wasn't really reflected in critic or social media reactions.
  17. These reactions feel worse than Thor, unless negative MCU sentiment is leading people to be less charitable then I think the RT score is going rotten.
  18. Oh he sucks, he's a Peyton Reed type and it's why the film outright sucking isn't off the table. Hoping for the best but I lost a lot of interest as soon as they hired him.
  19. Condensing the next two Avengers films into one might be the move, this saga clearly does not have the phase 3 hype that led into Infinity War and Endgame so no need to dilute the brand with more content just for the sake of it.
  20. I mean he's just marketing his movie, yeah he's gonna be hyperbolic. Wouldn't take this as much of anything.
