I guess probably the release time had to do with it. Back when Demon Slayer released, there weren't many movies around. It probably got a lot of casual viewers.

Also Demon Slayer was a bit special, DBS:SH, seems like just another DBS movie.

Demon Slayer is also currently a lot more popular than Dragonball which does have a very solid fanbase. So this is still a great opening for Dragonball

Brad Pitt has always somewhat struggled as a box office draw. He's never been that bona fide butts in seats Tom Hanks/Tom Cruise/Will Smith draw. He gets a Se7en and then soon after Meet Joe Black, Devil's Own and Seven Years in Tibet, Fight Club. Back to back to back flops. He doesn't deliver strings of smashes like the others.

Agree he is inconsistent but he also has his fair share of hits and he also likes to experiment with more arty fare rather than sticking to blockbusters so I respect him for that

  3. Slow weekend all around. I was hoping Bullet Train would hold a bit better.

I also just saw Prey and it was awesome and immediately wished I had seen it at a cinema. If it has opened last week in theaters, I think strong word of mouth would have propelled it to the number 1 spot this weekend.

What are some films you saw at home that you wished you had seen at cinemas. Two others for me are

Dune (cinemas were still closed in my country, what could I do.)

    Tenet

  4. If Empire didn't provide early numbers would people still be against the ban?

When I am in lurker mode which is 95% of the time then I would selfishly say unban since I just want to see the numbers post and then leave.

But if I were a really active user I would also be annoyed since the guy doesn't know how to control his posts and comes as overly aggressive and annoying at times.

Then again you could argue that is what makes the forums entertaining.

However if someone is getting seriously hurt and offended then I also sympathize even if I know it wouldn't make me angry personally, we all have different mental capabilities.

I guess what I am saying is I understand both sides and just hope everyone can get along.

I don't understand critics for Marvel's Phase 4. To me, I rate Phase 4 film pretty much the same as Phase 3 so far.

It's ironic as when I look at each film individually, they are all good (IMO) In general I liked No Way Home, Shang Chi, Dr Strange 2, Black Widow, even Eternals. The D+ shows have all been entertaining. Yet when people complain at it being purposeless I agree. and this is Marvel's fault as well because they hype it up as all being connected and leading somewhere so that is something fair to expect. Feige claimed that Loki was important and would impact the MCU yet you could watch No Way Home and Dr Strange without sensing any connection. So I completely understand the MCU phase 4 criticisms.

Having said that I am still excited to watch Thor and hope it does well.

I heard Rowan Atkinson promoting that on the new Kermode and Mayo podcast, the episodes are like 10 minutes long. He mentioned they originally developed the show for another streamer so it was probably going to be a Quibi "series", moat of those were just movies cut up into segments.

I also lost interest when I heard it was a series but after reading that they are 10 min each I'm going to check it out. Looney Tunes length sounds like a perfect distraction while waiting for Saturday numbers

  7. Just binged the 2nd season and mostly loved it. The action is fun and well shot. The growing bond between Mando and Grogu is touching. The guest stars were interesting. The music was some of the best I have heard in a long time.

As for the final fan service everyone was talking about I didn't like it. The buildup was excellent but after he showed his face it felt flat for me. No introduction, just I will take the child and then bye. It also distracted from the goodbye scene for me. I am happy for all those who loved it.

  8. Been super busy this past month but was able to watch stuff here and there

    Holidate - Hated it - 2/10

Trial of the Chicago 7 - Highly entertaining throughout with great performances - 8/10

Hubie Halloween - I surprisingly found it quite funny and enjoyable - 6/10

Enola Holmes - Enjoyable mid level blockbuster. Millie Bobby Brown is great - 7/10

    TV

The Queen's Gambit - I loved every moment and Anya Tayloy Joy is mesmerizingly awesome. Great whether you know chess or not - 9/10

Dash % Lily - Really well done feel good romantic series which is just what some of us need right now 8/10

Raised By Wolves - Excellent world and robots. I felt the last few eps focused too much on plot rather than the robot children dynamic but still good and looking forward to next season 7/10

The Boys Season 2 - Still good 7.5/10

  9. Stuck to TV this week

Umbrella Academy Season 2 - I liked a lot better than the first, I felt the storyline was more focused and each cast member seemed more comfortable with their characters and the sibling chemistry was awesome - 8.5

Community Season 1 - Mostly hilarious show, Troy and Abed are the best, Pierce can be annoying at times, Jeff is great except when paired with Brita, spoofing sitcom conventions is done really well - 8.5

As for Breaking Bad, it's one of my favorite shows of all time but I understand if it doesn't appeal to others. I myself wasn't really hooked until season 2 episode 2 Grilled

  10. Including some stuff I forgot to put last time

    1. Onward - Fun okay adventure but that third act is glorious - 8
    2. Greyhound - The naval action was well done and Tom Hanks is always dependable - 7
    3. Three Idiots - Tried my first Indian movie other than youtube clips of over the top action shared by friends (Does Slumdog count?) as this had been recommended and while it was a bit long the positive uplifting vibe really got to me. The message was so simple yet really felt full of wisdom. Aamir Khan was great as Rancho, I wish I had a friend like him in College. - 9
    4. Dangal - Tried another Aamir Khan after that and this was also well made and enjoyable. A bit more serious but I was engaged throughout. The wrestling scenes were really intense. - 8
    5. Artemis Fowl - Yikes! - 2
    6. Umbrella Academy Season 2 eps 1 tp 4 - I'm liking it a lot better than season 1 so far. The characters feel more natural and comfortable. The performances are just as good and better. The humor and fun is still there but there is a cohesiveness that was lacking in season 1. No rate yet but great so far.
    7. Weathering With You - Not as good as Your Name but still enjoyable. Absolutely gorgeous to look at. - 7.5

  11. Been depressed about the lack of box office so didn't go to this forum for a long time which is a shame cause this thread is excellent. Loved reading through it. Here is my list for the month to catch up.

    1. Better Call Saul - Excellent and just as good as Breaking Bad - 9.5 out of 10
    2. Succession - First season was good but about below what everyone was saying for me 7.5 out of 10 but season 2 is one of the best seasons of TV I've seen - 10 out of 10
    3. The Old Guard - Decent way to pass the time - 6.5
    4. Dark - Couldn't connect much with the characters in season 1 but the plot is excellent throughout all 3 seasons - 9 out of 10
    5. Crash Landing On You - The Coronavirus has made me watch shows I never would have paid attention to before like this Korean series on Netflix that turned out to be excellent and lovely - 9 out of 10
    6. Palm Springs - Delightful - 8.5 out of 10
    7. Schindler's List - As good as I remember - 10 out of 10
    8. Eurovision - Meh, the songs were fun - 5 out of 10
    9. A Whisker Away - Netflix anime film was fun - 7 out of 10
    10. Space Force - I probably laughed more than others - 7 out of 10

  12. Just finished watching and the funny thing is I understand what the critics are complaining about and can't really disagree. I was confused at the start and was quickly bombarded with loads of strange names and the dialogue was a bit clunky

    But.

I still found it oddly compelling. I couldn't stop watching and after a while was thoroughly enjoying myself. Cavill is perfect and I enjoyed his adventures with Jaskier despite not really knowing what their relationship was he just follows him around cause he is a bard haha. Yenefer was great. The magical chase and battles were really fun. The longsword fights had excellent choreography. I can't wait for season 2
