Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Spidey Freak replied to The Wild Eric's topic in Review That Movie! (Spoilers Allowed)
I'm still in disbelief that this one lone film solved all of my problems with the MCU take on Spidey. I was expecting something cute, fun and MCU fan servicey like Far From Home but I ended up getting my favorite MCU film which was touching, clever and Spider-Man fan servicey (got my criteria straight yo). I fucking loved Aunt May's last scene. Marisa Tomei obviously wanted out and with Peter moving out, she would have become even more tertiary as a character so it was fine that they killed her off. The "With great power" line was just narration from the original comics which was later retconned to be Uncle Ben's words, so it's refreshing that it was Aunt May who got to say it this time around and whose death will most define Peter and his epic hero journey. I wish we had gotten more of her in the previous films but whatever. And finally my boy Andrew was done justice. 😪 Foxx got some solid material too. A much deserved closure for the TASM characters, with a completely unexpected Miles reference that hit different. -

If theatrical performance were the main priority for Encanto, they wouldn't have announced the shortened time window between its theatrical release and its D+ release even before the theatrical opening. Encanto was primarily a play for awards and to give a holiday bump for D+ subscribers, with theatrical run secondary. I doubt Turning Red will get affected at all (unless they delay its Disney Plus release date so that people are actually incentivised to head to theaters to watch it first). -

Oscars 2021 ratings went UP from Oscars 2020, probably because of some goodwill built from 2020's popular wins with Parasite/Joker and also the expectation in 2021 for Chadwick to win posthumously. Unfortunately Oscars 2021 was not just super low energy but ended with Chadwick losing to Anthony Hopkins who didn't even bother turning up. Oscars 2022 ratings going down for sure. -
Sony couldn't introduce Miles to the masses in a more excellent way. An animated trilogy (which is hopefully consistent when it comes to critical acclaim) and popular video games all coming out at the same time as Holland's younger years as live-action Peter is the best way to build up hype for Miles's live action debut about 5-6 years down the line, when Holland in his 30's can serve as a mentor to him.

That story is 3 words- INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE The first NWH trailer had a reference to this plot line where MJ teases Peter about male spiders having pheromone powers over their female counterparts. Apparently Leo's Spidey had pheromone powers to help him seduce Mary Jane before the skyline sex scene.

The new characters who are teased, Miguel O'Hara and Pavitr Prabhakar, seem to be included keeping specific OS markets in mind, in this case, Latin America and India, with the overabundance of Spanish and Indian language texts in their respective worlds. If Cindy Moon is included then South Korea will be another targeted market. Europe representative needed. Spider-Man UK?

Lego Movie 1 was a BO smash on release but then was ignored by the Oscars, and spin-offs like Lego Batman and Lego Ninjago took away the novelty of the franchise. Spider-Verse 1 was average at the BO but became an awards darling and has longer staying power in pop-culture with more people discovering it on streaming, cable and VOD, with no spin-offs to wear off its novelty (unless No Way Home counts? It still lacks the cutting edge animation though).

MJ is always endgame. I don't think Zendaya will be absent in the next film, but if she is, it might just be a break for a film or two before she returns. Also I think Sony wants to give Black Cat a non-MCU franchise. How is she not gonna come across as bargain basement Catwoman if she's the hero's love interest?

Zendaya MJ has all the potential to be a breakout if Sony stops making these films Spider-Man teams up with Marvel Superhero X flicks (or in FFH's case, Spidey mourning Tony Stark) and goes back to focusing on Spidey's supporting cast. Hopefully the fourth film utilizes the larger MCU concepts and characters sparingly and majorly sticks to Spider-Man's world.
