  1. 150M is a reasonable guess but I don't think Homecoming is the right comp for this because the market couldn't be any different. Homecoming came out in the shadow of Wonder Woman which had incredible legs and had sealed the title of movie of the summer. HC also was the 3rd big superhero film in just 2 months after GOTG2 and WW and the 4th in 4 months counting Logan, so anticipation for it had dissipated somewhat. OTOH, the market is currently bare and the anticipation is just building for The Batman, and will continue to do till March barring awful reviews or mass shutdowns.
  2. It's more elegant than Elfman and Zimmer despite retaining some of the bombastic aspects. They weren't kidding when they said this would be the most emotional Batman.
  3. "MCU adjacent" = Films that Amy Pascal vaguely tries to pass off as connected to the MCU like Venom. Not NWH which is MCU proper lol. As for Batman and 200M, let's see. There's a reason NWH opened well above 200M and Homecoming/FFH despite all being MCU films and that's because it had a big hook of its own and was the most anticipated pandemic film so far. The Batman doesn't have as big a hook as NWH but then again we aren't expecting it to open at 260M either. I'll peg 200M OW as 50:50 right now as it's hotly anticipated and the first superhero film to follow NWH, with the perfect gap in release dates to build up demand. 200M will come down to the reviews and how they affect the hype.
  4. Not now. Later when the mutants have been established so that one of the crossover movies can put out a poster based on this wild 80's promo art
  5. WB Japan srsly marketing this like Sasuke vs. Laughing Man from Ghost in the Shell to the otakus
  6. They seem to have dumped most of the stuff Geoff Johns setup. I can only wish WW84 had been as lucky.
  7. Ya'llz, the Burton films weren't Care Bears: The Movie either. Nicholson's Joker and DeVito's Penguin did some visceral stunts almost at the level of the pencil trick. And then there was Pfeiffer's Catwoman licking herself.
  8. Every live action Batman film except for Schumacher and the '66 one have comfortably been dark and PG-13. Why did people think a dark tone for this one would automatically mean R when the Joker has been mutilating people in PG-13 movies before?
  9. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Also he's not wrong. This movie is almost built to setup an animated series exploring the different members of the Madrigal family.
  10. What is Deadline saying lol https://deadline.com/2022/01/spider-man-no-way-home-fourth-weekend-japan-encanto-china-global-international-box-office-1234906918/
  11. I mean, I'm sure the producers would really want to recover another 5M at this point. I agree that just swapping Elgort for any other actor wouldn't have made the film a success though so it had to be someone like a Styles to do the trick.
  12. This is literally the first time I've heard anyone say anything remotely positive about him in the film. As for Spielberg, I don't think he would've really cared about sticking to Elgort if this controversy came up during the casting process and the studio asked him to change his pick.
  13. I don't think Elgort would significantly hurt the BO prospects of a random movie but an adaptation of an NY set interracial romance Broadway musical whose target demo are left-leaning crowds, especially progressive women? I think he definitely put them off from at least making it a pandemic must see like Gucci. It's also the reason why I think you are very right that Harry would have taken it to blockbuster status as his fanbase would have been interested in the film if HE were in it.
  14. It's still a pandemic and parents with small kids are understandably the most cautious.
  15. I had no idea it hadn't opened in the Philippines until today. It's a big market for Spider-Man. Insane to think NWH is crossing Ultron and would have crossed TA1 without China and Philippines in less than a month.
  16. I mean, we'll never know about Shang-Chi. It might have easily beaten Detective Chinatown 3 WW.
  17. Ehh... Into the Spider-Verse is still the best Spidey film and some people still swear by the Raimi films. Also don't see Marvel ever making something as dumb and amazing as the Venom films.
