good film, but not sure how it plays outside NY/LA. I guess it could do as good as The Favourite .

no scheduling conflicts

bad year for Chris Pine, starring in 2 of the biggest bombs this year and his directorial debut being unreleasable

What did you find so objectionable about it? I actually think it's a more enjoyable movie than the original Captain Marvel (and certainly better than Love & Thunder or Quantumania).
bad story, disjointed, bad editing, bad villain, some dumb singing planet that just seemed like a excuse to put some dude in to sell some tickets in some random market, cgi cats

How did the first one get an A but this movie got a B? Is it waaaaaaaaay worse or are audiences getting stricter with CBMs? Like seriously only 1/6 live action CBMs this year have gotten above B+
original Captain Marvel was fun but forgettable, i thought Brie and SLJ made a good team. The Marvels is the worst MCU film i ever seen, i could not believe Marvel released it, maybe with strike they said we can't fix it as normal.

2 products a year any combination of tv or movie or tv +tv works (like animation most, general audiences only pay attention to movies) , Mandalorian was an outlier, i don't think series have been bad outside of Bobafett

Are you being serious? They all flopped because they were connected to films most people didnt like. How is that a good comparison to this at all?
people like the original Alien, Covenant is a prequel to that

That one had a completely different team of people behind it and didn't look anything like its predecessor. Bad comparison
than Suicide Squad to Birds of Prey , spinning off a character that people online may like but don't show up for their own movie, or Alien Covenant

let's see if audiences reject a follow up film with a recast to a film that barely made a profit like The Girl in the Spider's Web

I don’t think the time period is drastically different for what they will nominate for blockbusters. It’s more different in terms of representation being recognized.
District 9 way back for example felt like a more daring nom than Dune.
so you choose an odd year where they academy forced a hard 10 nominees , soon after they changed voting again where you needed to reach a threshold to get a nomination, which many years only produced 8 , they make it easier now forcing 10 nominees

Yeah they were definitely not ever considered awards contenders lol, and they came after stuff like Up, Avatar and Life of Pi were nominated.
Though I would gladly take both of the first two having gotten all the awards attention of Silver Linings and American Hustle, those movies aged like milk.
in that time period no, but if something like Dune gets nominated now, why not THG, which at least felt like a complete story and not a part 1

award expansion? Oscar already expanded their best picture field to more than five by the time when HG series came out. Best Makeup maybe and not much else.
not really, it wasn't 10 nominees until after 2020, it was often only 8, if no movie got enough votes. Now they nominate the top 10, often 2 undeserved nominations for blockbusters now
-
rewatching the series , it seems like those movies would be considered Oscar contenders in 2023 , with all the award expansions

THG opening same range as GB Afterlife . Another franchise that will keep hitting new lows.

after seeing Star Wars fumble it gives me some comfort knowing it could have always been worse. How could a sequel to a billion dollar film fall this hard.
-
technically i think Bloodshot will hold the weekend drop record for a comic book movie, so that's a win for The Marvels

I imagine if Dune II was released , The Marvels would be making Shazam II box office.
