'Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2' Tops 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' In Audience Anticipation Poll

According to Piedmont Media Research, the most anticipated film of the holiday season is not Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but rather The Hunger Games: Mockingjay part II. Brent Lang reported on the results over at Variety, and there are quite a few interesting nuggets to be found. However, the click-friendly portion is that the fourth and final Hunger Games movie scored the biggest number in the survey’s five-year history, with Star Wars Episode 7 coming in at third ever behind Avengers: Age of Ultron and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay part IINow, with the caveat that this is one survey with one 3,000 person sample group, does this mean anything in terms of the respective box office fates of the fourth Hunger Games movie and/or the seventh Star Wars movie?

by the new guy... Forecast: 'Transylvania', 'Intern' & 'Inferno' Highlight Stacked Weekend

by Brad Brevet

  September 24, 2015

It's a stacked weekend with some notable holdovers and a pair of strong-performing limited releases from last weekend set to expand. Add to that a trio of newcomers including the latest from Nancy Meyers, an animated sequel and the curious decision from Jason Blum's newly formed BH Tilt to bring the long-delayed cannibal horror feature The Green Inferno to over 1,500 theaters. Let's peel this onion one layer at a time...

  • Hotel Transylvania 2 (3,753 theaters) - $35,653,500
  • The Intern (3,305 theaters) - $18,177,500
  • Everest (3,006 theaters) - $15,177,294
  • Maze Runner: Scorch Trials (3,792 theaters) - $13,643,809
  • Black Mass (3,188 theaters*) - $12,449,140
  • The Visit (2,964 theaters) - $5,444,868
  • War Room (1,945 theaters*) - $4,662,165
  • The Perfect Guy (2,230 theaters*) - $4,486,760
  • The Green Inferno (1,540 theaters) - $2,308,500
  • A Walk in the Woods (2,158 theaters*) - $1,629,290
  • Sicario (65 theaters) - $1,292,135
