Martian strikes me as the kind of movie that would make $120M, or $150M at best. Since this Fall is full of lousy offerings, 

people have no other choice but to check out The Martian

So there's both too many adult targeted movies now and too few? Lol. 

People have blamed the the poor performance of a lot of films like The Walk, Steve Jobs and Crimson Peak on the fact that the market is saturated with adult driven films. The fact that The Martian is still kicking ass in its 4th week is actually more impressive considering how many other movies came out gunning for the same target demo.
