BOOYAH SUCKAS Posted September 10, 2017 Share Posted September 10, 2017 Even after 27 years it still holds the record for highest grossing western, which shows just how impressive its gross is and how pitiful the western genre is in terms of blockbusters. Although Costner had a couple of successful movies before this such as Untouchables, Bull Durham and Field of Dreams, Dances with Wolves is what made him one of the biggest movie stars in the world at least for a while. Unfortunately he never lived up to the potential he reached here and with a few years the public had already turned against him. Dances With Wolves is what film making should be all about, taking risks. Costner had approached several people to direct and everybody had turned him down. But he didn't give up on it and decided to direct it himself despite not previous experience.
