‘ReBoot 2.0’ is coming for Christmas on December 25, Y4, in IMAX 3D. Arix describes it as “sailing straight into the lion-shaped storm with confidence,” saying it appeals to a younger audience and has built-up anticipation from the Y1 release of the first film.

That’s what happened when you go up against My Peoples.

I mean it probably has more to do with the face I wrote it in like 15 minutes at the last second to fill a hole in the schedule :P

Hype.

‘ReBoot 2.0’ will feature the return of the original cast and director Dean DeBlois. It will also introduce Hexadecimal, an “iconic” villain from the original TV show and computer virus Megabyte’s sister. Arix notes it’s a “dysfunctional relationship with major ramifications for the whole cast.”

Transitioning into the slate for Gold Crescent Pictures, Arix says he’s “incredibly excited” about the branch’s first Y4 release, ‘Rock & Roll Heart Attack,’ which was previously intended as a Y3 release from director Shane Black until he dropped out of the project. The film is back on with new helmer Bill Condon and comes out January 31, Y4.

Arix insists the movie is not being “dumped in January,” saying the idea is to get ahead of the release of ‘Bullets and Lyrics,’ a film which he calls “superficially similar.” ‘Rock & Roll Heart Attack’ will be distinctly unique, he claims.

@CAYOMMagazine
‘Rock & Roll Heart Attack’ focuses on the frontman for a band of the same name, a local celebrity on the cusp of nationwide stardom. Which, Arix says, “is a bit awkward for him, seeing as he’s also secretly a supervillain.” Things become yet more complicated when he realizes that a newly-emerged superhero sworn to bring him to justice may in fact be falling for him, “and maybe it’s not completely one-sided.”

Arix confirms that the supervillain is “very much the protagonist of the movie,” and that the story unfolds from his point of view. It will be a combination of action, comedy, drama, and music, though he says it’s “not quite a full-on musical, as all the performances will take place within the fabric of the story.”

“Also,” Arix says, “We don’t want to make a big deal out of it and miss the point, but yes, the villain and the hero are both men.” He insists that there won’t be “any of those ‘Poison & Wine’ soap operatics or hardcore sex.”

Finally, Arix announces the lead role in ‘Rock & Roll Heart Attack’ will be played by a previously-unknown actor and singer, James Zeph. Zeph will do his own singing for the part and contribute “at least one” original song to the soundtrack. Other casting announcements will be coming later.

After being delayed for two years, Arix insists that Marc Webb’s ‘Biker Mice from Mars’ will indeed finally be coming out this year on March 20. He says the success of ‘Street Sharks’ makes him “very optimistic” about the upcoming film, which he says will “have a similar vibe.”

@CAYOMMagazine
‘Biker Mice from Mars’ is based on a combination of elements from both the origninal 90s series and the updated 2006 reboot, which was never aired in the US. As in ‘Street Sharks,’ the heroes will be portrayed via a combination of makeup, prosthetics, and CGI enhancement. Casting and plot specifics are still under wraps.

Coming for May 8, Y4 is the fantasy epic ‘Earthsong’ from Julie Taymor, the Oscar-nominated director of ‘Frida,’ ‘Titus,’ and ‘Across the Universe.’ While admitting the relative obscurity of its source material, a webcomic by author and illustrator Crystal Yates, Arix says the property has “enormous potential.”

“Most summer blockbusters throw in one or two characters or a tacked-on love story to pander to female audiences,” Arix claims. “But ‘Earthsong’ is not only a great, involving fantasy story from a female creator and now a female director, but it is fundamentally about motherhood in its many shapes and forms, making it the perfect choice for Mother’s Day.”

‘Earthsong’ tells the story of a woman who wakes up in a strange place with no memory of who she is. She soon discovers she’s been thrust into a war between two living planets over the fate of people from all across the universe. “Earthsong is more than a world filled with the origins of myths and legends, and more than the battleground between two armies, but a character with her own emotions, mysteries, and insecurities,” Arix says.

@CAYOMMagazine
‘Earthsong’ will be an adaptation of the first major story arc in the comic. Arix confirms the plan going forward is to adapt the entire story as a trilogy. “We’re not shooting all three back-to-back like ‘Lord of the Rings,’” he admits. “But we have Julie and the cast under contract and scripts well in development for both sequels. If the first is a hit, we’ll move ahead with the other two immediately.”

‘Earthsong’ will feature a largely-female cast including Elle Fanning, Kou Shibasaki, Jennifer Connelly, Rooney Mara, Stefanie Scott, and Keke Palmer. Additional casting announcements will come later. “I really hope this one takes off,” Arix candidly confesses.

Another holdover originally intended for Y3 is director Stuart Beattie’s ‘ROM,’ a sci-fi superhero film based on the Hasbro character. ROM, the protagonist, is a “space knight” sent to Earth to eradicate a race of black-magic-using aliens who have already worked themselves deeply into human society. He teams up with an ex-soldier whose entire family was killed and replaced by the aliens. Releases June 5, Y4.

Coming for Independence Day is the re-teaming of director Peter Berg and actor Mark Wahlberg, who previously collaborated on ‘Lone Survivor,’ ‘Deepwater Horizon,’ and ‘Patriots Day.’ It’s an adaptation of the sci-fi video game ‘Crysis.’ Arix explains that Wahlberg will be in “a supporting role” this time around.
