BoxOfficeFangrl Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 This was the Regal/AMC/Cinemark secret movie last night, surprising since it just opened in limited release. The start was a bit leisurely but became quite compelling. In this awards year, Sing Sing and especially Colman Domingo could go pretty far. Plus, has anyone gotten an Oscar nomination for playing themselves before? Several mafia movies/shows have featured guys from that world playing gangsters based on their lives, but still fictional characters. 1 Quote
kayumanggi Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 To those interested, this will go wide on January 17 next year. 2 Quote

A24 really botched this release They're going for the "little movie that could" angle since it still hasn't even been released on digital even though it came out in July. Not a bad idea since it worked for CODA and this is a year similarly lacking a sure-fire Best Picture frontrunner. Quote
Webslinger Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 A24's approach with this film has been genuinely baffling, but I guess I'm glad to hear they'll be giving it a proper release. Better late than never. Somehow, we got this for two weeks in my area in August (clerical error that worked in our favor, I guess?) and I got to see it during that run. It's quite good and played like gangbusters with the (admittedly small) Saturday afternoon crowd I saw it with. 1 Quote

Coleman Domingo has been stable in best actor noms but the film itself hasn’t really gotten any attention in the awards circuit. Coleman was the only nomination that the film got at the Golden Globes which isn’t a good sign. Quote

titanic2187 Posted January 15 Posted January 15 The A24 movie Sing Sing is about to redefine the concept of a wide release. On January 17, the Colman Domingo film will return to more than 500 theaters — and become the first movie to be simultaneously available to nearly a million incarcerated people across the U.S. “The Golden Globe-nominated prison drama “Sing Sing” will be re-released in theaters and made available in more than 1,100 correctional facilities this week in what its distributor says is the first time a major theatrical release is made available to incarcerated people.” the re-release scale is much bigger than the peak of summer run. Maybe this is A24 last push of the movie to best picture list. Quote
RichWS Posted January 15 Posted January 15 500 theaters and nowhere near me. THIS MOVIE DOES NOT EXIST. Quote
