For reception it was the best received ((I say this as somebody who thinks it is distinctly the worst Indy movie). Flash has some hardocre fans and mostly haters (like me). The Marvels and Wish I almost hear nothing but negative things about. Meanwhile especially at church I will hear people at times praise Dial of Destiny. Enough people enjoy it, and that results in being talked about more online.

Do not compare using old stars to black and white films doing it. On B and W it is way easier to hide age and make movies like The Man who Shot Liberty vallance or Its a Wonderful Life (where one person plays someone in multiple decades).

For the first time in my life it feels weird that I have never seen The Matrix. I think I got the gist from Robot Chicken.

I think it will fail in theaters and then be a big hit on home media/streaming. In the future it will have a fanbase who see it as mindless fun. Whatever the future version of reddit is will make posts like "Can you believe Kraven bombed at the box office all those decades ago?"

The only nostalgia I have for Ghostbusters is I saw the first one twice in high school. These are my rankings. 1. Afterlife (I know how shocking). 2. Ghostbusters 3. Frozen Empire 4. Ghostbusters II I never saw 2016. Nothing like "Controversy" baiting dominating the advertising for me not to see it, and my library does not have it. I will never say anything bad about the movie until I see it and can judge, but I will judge its marketing.

Just got back. Very different tone from Afterlife and more like the first one. Probably going to hurt it at the box office.

From what I heard the effects were completed for the most part and were bad. They and the climax had to be redone. They had already spent 70M and needed another 20M.

Being canned well into production is rare, but it happens when Superman Lives. Finished movies being canned is shocking. Also according to rumors Scooby-doo and Krypto 2 was canned. But they leaked it to prevent this, and it then got a proper release. If true that is 4 by a technically.

Could be. I have not ordered mine yet, but I am seeing it either opening Thursday or next Thursday or Friday. Ghostbusters has a big Gen X fanbase who pay with their wallets, so I can see many of them not being big on preordering. Of course it could also be like Expendables 4 where the fanbase waits to buy it on home media.

A longer runtime.

Does not matter for Ghostbusters fans. The way they talk about critics you would think the 2016 film got 100% and Afterlife got 0%. Nothing to gain from good reviews and comedies normally get bad reviews.
