You cant call Nick of Time a good movie by any stretch of your imagination but it still manages to be mildly entertaining and at times thrilling, especially during the first 45 minutes. After that it just kept getting more stupid. I still wouldn't call it a waste of time because it held my interest throughout its relatively short runtime and there are some clever and exciting things here and there. Overall the movie is just very average.

Johnny Depp sleepwalks through the movie which is a shame because compact, suspenseful films like these need a strong lead performance so we can get invested in the main characters nerve-racking situation. Just look at Cary Grant in North by Northwest. Okay, maybe its not fair to compare an average 90's thriller to a Hitchcock classic but Depp doesn't deliver either way. The movie really does try to be hitchcockian but the director isn't capable enough and nor is the script good enough.

Christopher Walken is his usual hammy self and he is fun to watch, threatening to make sauce out of Depp's daughter.
