  3. In all seriousness, I'm truly pleased with the Apes number. I'm curious to know if audiences fall in love with the film as critics did.
  4. Pish. In the gay realm it isn't even considered flirting until someone is getting at least a hand job.
  5. Rth, glass half full. Spatula, glass half empty. Opposites attract or so I hear.
  6. Entirely possible. Friday opening weekend numbers are much harder for me even the morning after. Especially when studios start to get creative.
  7. Transformers - 4.69 (+36%) Tammy - 4.01 (+64%) 22 Jumps Street - 2.19 (+66%) How to Train Your Dragon - 1.80 (+38) Earth to Echo - 1.73 (+36%) Deliver us from Evil - 1.56 (+56%) Maleficent - 1.33 (+48%) Begin Again - 0.830 (+144%)
  8. UPDATE! Dawn is at 220% of Rise's number at the same POD. It's at 50% of Godzilla's number at the same POD. It is now up to 80% of Maleficent's number at the same POD.
  9. Update in between meetings as of now: Dawn is at 3.8X Rise's number at the same POD. Dawn is at 0.38X Godzilla's number at the same POD. Dawn is at 0.67X Maleficent's number at the same POD.
  10. Leaving my office for a bunch of meetings in a moment but in the meantime here is some information to get us back on topic. This is EARLY but as of now on the East Coast: Dawn is at about 4X Rise's number at the same POD. Dawn is about 1/3 of Godzilla's number at the same POD. Dawn is about 1/2 of Maleficent's number at the same POD. I'll touch base later.
  11. In addition to being a film nerd, I'm also a huge train nerd so thanks for that.
  12. That was true 30 years ago. Today, you're more likely to get an impromptu theatrical performance on the subway from some sort of hipster theatre group.
  13. I typically give the MTA some slack. The fact that they are essentially the veins for the entire city and provide millions of people a day a way to avoid having to own a car or navigate New York traffic should be appreciated. It is a thankless job to run a huge transportation network like the subway. Typically when there are delays you should either be angry at people who hold the train cars or chose to kill themselves on the track that morning or the state government in Albany who controls the purse strings and should provide them sufficient money to perform maintenance. The damn thing runs 24/7. It's a modern marvel even when it shits the bed.
  14. Who is this and why does he speak using enraging internet syntax? That terribly redundant internet acronym at the beginning hurts my feelings and makes me sad.
  15. Aside from Rise, the only other good comp would be Ghost Protocol in terms of demographic and the type of sequel but sadly we can't use it since it opened in December AND had a bizarre release schedule.
  16. Apes is a very interesting case of a sequel to a well-regarded movie that doesn't have a huge fan base and also skews much older and wealthier than most other summer films. The only comp we should be using here is Rise. This film shouldn't be acting like a sequel that we're used to.
  17. Fox expects mid 50's publicly but I'd say internally they're shooting for mid-60s.
  18. No, he's right. DOFP showings started at 10 but it is a terrible comp to use here.
  19. Well define high? I haven't been able to really keep up with the posts over here the past few days so I'm not really sure what the expectations were from my favorite forum posters.
