A number of reasons. The studio has faith in it, it has the potential to appeal to both men and women, it was given a summer release, and rough screenings have gone well. All this doesn't mean that it absolutely will break out but if it finds an audience and the final round of marketing connects, it could pull a "Salt." -
This Summer has indeed been "meh." Watch LUCY shock everyone and become a sleeper hit.

I mostly agree but I'm cool with the balls being shaved and the rest of the hair down there being groomed. But yeah, if it's all shaved then it looks like a boy's privates instead of a man's.

I have a feeling it will show up in force as it always does. No offense to my west coasters but films like this have a history of doing really well there.

I highly recommend doing the AMC 84th Street instead. Reclining seats, reserved seating and better audio.

Let me be very clear here so there is no confusion. I'm only referring to how the films looked at the same time of day so Transformers is tracking a couple million behind MOS right NOW, not a couple million behind the opening day.

Transformers is ahead of Pacific Rim by quite a bit at this point in time.

I know posting matinee estimates are off limits but if anyone is interested, I thought we could play an "ahead or behind" game so to speak. Pick a comp and I'll let you know if TF is currently tracking ahead or behind whatever film you chose at the same time in the day. It could be harmless fun and a way to pass the time.

The studios mostly decide but the film buyers have the power to say yes or no when the distribution team asks them for more screens.
