Frozen 2 will go down right? Less than 9M.
100%.

Universal is not going to let this miss a billion. They want the headline that one of their own movies made a billion during pandemic times.

This is doing fantastically! It completely dispelled the notion that the pandemic destroyed the animation genre.

Comscore
Domestic - $30.76 million
Overseas - $18.9 million
Worldwide - $49.66 million
They specifically say it doesn't count Japan. That's not $50.7 million either. So why the difference?
It made like $19M just in Japan so it's more than $49.66M. $81M including Japan seems more accurate.

Any friday numbers for holdovers?

Much bigger drop for TGM that I expected.
Probably due to it being available on streaming. $700M is locked though.

Any predictions on final tally? It got a China release.
-
It seems to be holding really well. So if it gets released in China then maybe $1B is still in play?

Oh. $19.5m is frontloaded for sure.
It's still really good for the horror genre to see something open up to $40M+. More proof that COVID didn't kill off horror. (Pun intended)

Bridge of Spies gets better with each viewing. Peak Spielberg. I love his earlier stuff too, but he really has had an amazing last 1/4 of his career and The Fablemans this Christmas seems likely to continue the trend.
Catch Me If You Can and Lincoln are my two favorite films of his of the 2000s. Still think Schindler's List is his best movie and Close Encounters is his second. You can easily make the case for him being the best director of all time.

I know it's hella early but is a billion looking achievable?

Theres so much entertainment available this weekend! Tomorrow I'm watching The Boys new episode and then watching Top Gun Maverick for the very first time! (I know I'm extremely late but been very busy with work) Then on Sunday I'm watching Stranger Things final 2 episodes of Season 4! Then on Monday watching Minions 2 with family.

Minions has already won my vote for most baffling overperformance of the pandemic era by a wide margin because the others made sense while this movie was following two previous movies in the franchise (the first Minions and DM3) that were hardly beloved (DM3 even saw a pretty notable decline that indicated audiences might've begun to get tired of the series). Universal should really give themselves a pat on the back for developing a consistently strong IP that has come this far while showing no signs of the diminished returns that properties like Shrek or Ice Age visibly displayed by their final movies or the franchise oversaturation that ended up being the death of poor Lego Movie.
The Shrek movies were always profitable. That last one made $750M+ not too much of a decrease from the third one.

The problem with 4th July is that BO is dead in evening that day but during day time will be nice.
I'm not saying it'll outgross Minions 2 on 4th of July but probably drop the least from Sunday.

Any odds of a The Bad Guys being fudged with Minions?
I hope so that movie was so fun!

Sad Elvis and BP won't get up from early estimates, but still very solid numbers.
Elvis should do 18-19M 3 day (23-24M on Holiday)
BP should do around 12M 3 day (15M on Holiday)
+100M locked for Elvis and +75M for BP looking real good
Around a 50% drop for a horror movie is actually really good.

I think Top Gun Maverick will kill it on 4th of July. The movie pretty much symbolizes that date.

The pandemic made people miss the minions.

Maybe Lightyear will have a 100000% increase Friday now and become a hit.

Back of the napkin, using 2016 as a guide:
TGM - $25.5
Elvis - $18.5
JWD - $16
BP - $11.5
But a lot of uncertainty there, so don’t hold me to it
Is that 3 day or 4 day?

Dominion having another okayish hold. -42% per Deadline would be not bad, but also not great given the inflated Sunday. 400M is dead for sure (i know, has been for a long time now).
Movie doesn't deserve to make half of what it's making.

100M is locked for Elvis
So happy for Austin Butler, I hope he wins an Oscar for this. It's so great to see new up and coming talent emerging. The studios should be doing a better job in promoting or raising up new generations of stars. It's like they've given up and relied on old figures.

Hopefully it has longs legs in the box-office because it'll need it to be profitable with that $50M budget.
