  1. THG was far from perfect but these elements alone made the film worth watching for me (regardless of the fact I really enjoyed it as a whole):The acting was superb. I can't fathom how you found it mediocre? Some of the tributes were lame, but most of the main cast (Lawrence, Sutherland, Tucci) were all fantastic (and Woody, Hutcherson and Banks were good). The reaping, the countdown and Rue's 'spoiler' (the fallout not the lead-up) were all fantastic scenes far above the types of things you would see in a "piece of garbage".The art design was great, particularly District 12 (made up for the lack of starving actors). The premise was hardly original but very enjoyable and the focus on the audience and reality TV was very interesting. The cgi was horrible though lol I don't get the complaint with the love story? It took up maybe 5 mins of screentime, yet Twilight drowns in in yet you liked that?
  2. We will, and the many sequels that will follow (oh and guess what, by that time the OS will have caught on so Catching Fire will be breaking some records! )
  3. The reaping scene alone in THG is academy stuff compared to most of those films.
  4. I really don't get your issue with film?I mean the acting (especially Lawrence, and the older supporting cast) is superb. The cinematography (minus shaky cam) is well done. The plot is good albeit unoriginal. There are issues for sure, like I said the pacing, action, and cgi are all poor, but not enough to make it a "piece of garbage".What is it about it that you hate so much?
  5. So it's a film that making a huge amount of money, therefore popular with the public. A - Cinemascore, good reviews from critics and the media "siding with it" as well? Ever thought the problem may be with you rather than the film?
  6. Seriously? The film wasn't that bad. In fact for a Hollywood franchise based on a book it was actually very good. It obviously had alot of issues (the pacing during the games fell apart) but it felt like it was aiming to be a good film not just a successful franchise.
  7. But that's sort of what Scream 4 did (it didn't have as much focus on the nostalgia aspect or the original cast) and that bombed as well. I think it's just really hard for popular dormant franchises to become popular again if they're not a reboot.
  8. I would consider a 140% increase good for the Friday considering Thursday also rose (maybe not brilliant, poor word choice)
  9. Well it would suggest a near $63M weekend (contrary to Nikki's 55M which I just don't understand). 62 - 65M is a good result imo (I never though it would ever get over 70)
  10. What's annoying is that just under 20M would be brilliant had we not been presented with 24M a couple of hours before.
  11. Well it wasn't a sure fire thing considering the OW skewed 54% over 25
  12. Maybe she just wanted to go for the two extremes :PUndercut everyone else's predictions initally so if the Friday was lower than expected she could boast, and then go stupidly high when she noticed everyone's predictions were rising, so she could look good if THG suprised.
  13. I'd be very happy with 65M, 70+ always seemed far too unrealistic/optimistic.
  14. Yeah we have no clue what is going on...Nikki's friday estimate has risen from her very first estimate of $18M ( though no longer that lovely $24M ). Yet the weekend estimate has gone down?
  15. How can it go from $18M Friday est Weekend $60Mto $19.5M Friday est Weekend $55???
  16. I think it was more a case of a lack of awareness (very low marketing budget) and book popularity overseas. I think the OS numbers would have been huge had the film been released a few weeks after the US release.
  17. Yeah It was never going to be big over here (initally). The marketing was pretty small and the books only recently became popular in the last couple of months. It would have worked better to have a gradual international release (like with Twilight) So the news could travel over to here, but with the packed schedule I guess it wasn't possible. I think it will have good legs OS though as people go in the coming weeks to see what the fuss is about.Catching Fire will be huge overseas though.
  18. I still can't get over the fact it has managed this without 3D and was not part of an earlier franchise/series. (I realise the books are popular but not really until the film was actually announced last year).I'm guessing the overseas' results will be a bit more modest though, the marketing hasn't been huge and the books haven't really caught on here until literally this year.
  19. I don't think it will be massive overseas (hopefully decent though). In the UK at least it's not got a lot of hype behind it, and my showing on Friday night at 8pm was only half full. However, It should have very good legs so the OW may not be big but it should make a good amount OS. Catching Fire will be a different story on the other hand.
