He's mentioned this before about wanting to do just an insanely low budget version. Idk how it'd work tho
-
Wait, are tickets available? I'm not seeing anything where I am
-
Disney has upfronts on the 12th so I'm guessing they're starting promotion then

Misses show the weakness of the brand. If the MCU brand was strong, a movie could make a decent box office even with not so popular characters.
Instead, current hits for the MCU seem to depend on characters popularity. That doesn't necessarily will help the brand (Guardiand of the Galaxy 3 success doesn't help The Marvels).
.....this argument makes no sense. So misses count against the brand, but a 800+ billion dollar hit does not count in favor of it? Only the bad examples count? Come on.

Though I agree The Marvels was a death of a thousand cuts and strikes did effect it, FNAF opened to 80m two weeks prior which aimed for a similar demographic and a smaller fanbase than the Marvel brand. And on top of that both Hunger Games and Aquaman were able to pull it together.
Fnaf also had a budget of seven dollars. Both Hunger Games and Aquaman didn't have their casts legally banned from promoting the movie.

saying Guardians 3 or Deadpool has anything to do with Cap 4 or Thunderbolts doing well is like say No Way Home being huge guaranteed The Marvels success.
So to be clear, your argument is the MCU having hits has no impact on future releases, but misses somehow do.

The Marvels is hard to gauge accurately much in the same way, say, Black Widow is hard to judge fairly. Well never know how well both those movies would have done if they were released under normal conditions. They rolled the dice that the strike would end early enough for them to both do promotion and still snag Dunes screens and it didn't work. And it wasn't the only release to suffer from the strikes. Using it as "the new normal" just because it's the most recent doesn't work.

Deadpool 3 won't really tell you anything abour MCU brand popularity.
Why do people keep pretending that it magically doesn't count, like they pretend Guardians 3 didn't count last year. Any studio that regularly has an 800 mil + grosser a year isn't dead, and wouldn't be if it were any other studio

the ant-man head is a good point, I must not have been paying enough attention, though some of the audience might just see it as a meaningless 4-th wall break
If Loki really is going to be the big connection, then I cant see this doing too much for the mcu in general; doubt aspects of the loki tv show are recognizable enough for that
Man give me a break. They aren't being subtle about it. There is no way people won't get it.

do we know in what way this movie is going to link back to the mcu? can't really take advantage of any goodwill this movie might create if people arent fully aware that its a mcu movie
Did you just not watch either trailer which prominently features the TVA and footage from the MCU films in it? Or the trailer with the gigantic ant man head? Come on now, people are reaching to say that "people won't notice it's an MCU movie" when it has the words MARVEL STUDIOS above it and on every promo

I mean, The Marvels set a precedent that MCU movies could make less than 250M. It has also shown a current weakness on the MCU brand to attract people.
As the MCU as a brand seems pretty weak, Captain America 4 will depend on the characters popularity, but I doubt Sam has so much popularity
This "MCU brand is dead" stuff is already stale with 97 and it'll feel ancient just by July. Looking at the remaining 2024 schedule Marvels about to go on a hit streak.
-
Yeah the circumstances are completely different with the Marvels. There's no half year strike that keeps the entire cast from promoting the movie, for one.
-
Are these predictions based on literally anything other than "it has reshoots scheduled" and "The Marvels did badly"
-
Christ at this rate even if it does like 400 you guys will be saying it's overperforming the way you guys talk about this.

Ugh this looks so fun and the tracking just doesn't seem to connect with audiences for some reason

Hear me out:
Daley and Goldstein make Spider-Man 4 which makes a cool billion
Daley and Goldstein get the greenlight and an overall deal with Sony
DND 2 BALDURS BOOGALOO

Oh this looks so gooooood. With a relatively quiet lead up and not much competition after this has a LOT of room to just explode

And I would agree with that if this were being released on some random weekend in Jan or Feb or whenever. They timed this for a reason. But looking at Friday's sales going down Saturday would have to really explode to hit the 25 so I will lower the range to 13-20 or something.
Yes, because of a pun.

Ah fuck now the performance is gonna be framed as a reaction to this isn't it.

Random though, but it’s kinda amusing to think that five years ago, the MCU was on top of the world, while the Fox X-Men series was completely washed up and on its deathbed, and now in 2024, Marvel is banking on a movie that focuses heavily on the Fox Marvel projects to rejuvenate the MCU.
...the Deadpool and Wolverine movies were both well received except for Origins

Guess the rumors of the characters having special helmets for high altitude fight stuff was true

I think distribution wise the 100 mil promotion thing is gonna be a sticking point. Most likely candidate is probably Apple still but this does sound like a steep sell

Friend of mine had a good word that put the finger on why this movie isn't connecting with me (and possibly others) - it feels Algorithm-y.
I dunno, a stunt-themed action romcom isn't like a generic type.

She-Hulk had a trailer at upfronts in 2022, and 2023 covered the live action shows, so a public Agatha trailer next week seems very plausible...so they have in the bank
Agatha (almost definitely will be there)
Daredevil Born Again (if Echo in 2023s any indication maybe a date, possibly for this year)
The animated slate is a question mark though...What If wasn't there last year, but 97s success and Eyes of Wakanda having Coogler may make their 2024 animation slate more of a focus.
Ironheart isnt till next year so it's probably not gonna be there but Wonder Mans kind of unclear, but id guess the same for it too.
