  1. I was going to wait until Christmas Day to see F2 for the 3rd time, but Cineplex Odeon sent me an email letting me know from Dec. 6-11 all movies in all formats are just 50% of the usual number of Scene points to see them.

I hoard my Scene points (I just used some to see the new Star Wars in VIP 19+ on it's opening Saturday so I can order a pitcher of beer and watch the movie in comfort), but I can't pass up a bargain, especially on a dead weekend like this , so I just bought a ticket for 1:45 tomorrow.

It looks like people like a bargain, it's already over 40% sold (103 of 236 seats sold).

  2. So, roughly $34.1m 2nd Friday. A wee bit under the early estimates, but still a gorgeous number.

Interesting to note that without the $8.5m from Thursday previews the first Friday did $33.7m, which means the 2nd Friday actually increased.❄️😎❄️

  3. ❄️❄️So glad F2 is doing so well. With those monster Tuesday and Wednesday numbers and a total that will be near or over $300m by the end of the weekend it looks like the odds of finishing over $500m domestic have gone up considerably.❄️❄️

I'm definitely going to see F2 again this weekend, as well as Knives out.😎

  4. I've been anticipating F2 for years now, but also had a little fear that they would muck it up with a sub par money grab of a sequel.

Thankfully F2 is a worthy sequel. Beautifully animated, a solid story and songs that really worked better in context than just listening to them before the movie released.

I'd say Olaf gets the most improved character award for F2, he had some really funny stuff, especially  his "stage acting" telling of a story.❄️❄️❄️

  5. Absolutely amazing that a little $20m movie about an assassin coming out of retirement would spawn a 4 movie franchise that has vastly increased with each movie (OW's of $14m, $30m and $57m).

I remember after the first one people were hoping $88m WW would be enough to get a sequel, but it was by no means guaranteed, and now we are headed to a 4th awesome installment.😁

  6. I am so looking forward to this. I haven't been this excited for a movie since the first Frozen where I pretty much spent all my time in the Frozen thread, followed by the South Korea and Japan threads.

It helped that they put out one hell of a trailer to start the ball rolling.

I have little doubt it will beat Frozen's domestic total, but I'm not sure about WW as that ridiculously huge Japan number will be hard to approach.

  7. How is it that a huge Emma Stone fan like myself is only just now finding out she has a topless scene in The favorite?

It just seems like it's so out of left field as Emma is someone I was absolutely sure would never do nudity in any way, shape, or form as she talked about how her dad wouldn't speak to her for 2 weeks after she did an episode of Medium earlier in her career with implied nudity (she was topless, but she was covering herself with her arms).

I was always going to see this, but I have to admit my interest is piqued just a bit more now.😎

I personally haven't posted much in weekend threads or any threads in the past few months. Mostly a factor of having a toddler at home, I watch movies 3 months after they release.

I've been pretty quiet here for about the same period of time, but in my case it's more that there haven't been any movies I really gave a damn about.

The latter portion of this year has been so dull, but at least the holiday season coming up shows some promise.

Last Jedi springs to mind, awful movie reflected by audiences scores followed by a solo bomb and now the opposite where people realise critics reviews are meaningless against the people’s opinions and money vote

Yeah, I just looked that up and it was a big 46% discrepancy, but in the other direction (Critics 91% vs. Audience 45%). Venom still has the crown with a 57% difference.😁

The only thing I remember from the first one is a young Amanda Seyfried in a cute bikini.

    Lily, your move !

Actually, it was a 1 piece bathing suit, but still, Amanda looked gorgeous in it. It's also the only time I can recall seeing a bit of color on her, usually she's very pale (in a good way)

I plan to see this tomorrow.

He basically admitted he did it to screw the score. RT really shouldn't allow that. Armond White I believe got kicked off for a while for his antics.

Someone at AW actually went through all his reviews over the last 10 years, over 1300 total, and this is the only time he gave a B- where it was counted as rotten, every other B- he gave was counted as fresh.

  12. So this self proclaimed "Smartest film critic in the world" seems to be another one of those contrarian critics. Someone pointed out some of his other recent reviews:

    Dunkirk "F"

    Wonder Woman "F"

    Logan "F"

    Baby Driver "C-"

Last year he gave rotten reviews to La La Land, Moonlight, Silence, Nocturnal Animals, Lion, Jackie, Personal Shopper, Toni Erdmann, Loving, etc.

He also has the dubious honor of giving Toy Story 3 its first rotten review in 2010 (it ended up 287/4)
