  1. I had to log on here for the first time in forever just to unfollow this topic.

Don't get me wrong. Doctor Strange is one of my favorite heroes and I'm over the moon about Raimi taking over. Thinking about what he'll do with Nightmare and Mordo is almost too exciting. But my inbox keeps getting flooded with notifications from this thread. Enough!

    Bye, again! Love you all!

They brought it back for the CW crisis crossover

I had heard about all the crossovers in Crisis but hadn't seen any clips. It actually looks interesting. I'll have to check it out for BOP, Routh's Kingdom Come Superman and other neat callbacks. Hopefully they righted some wrongs from past movies and shows.

Suicide Squad was so hilariously awful that I spent the entire movie literally crying with laughter. Every little thing set me off: Harleen's swandive, Enchantress' wiggly dance, Slipknot losing his head, Cap'n Boomerang's sparkly unicorn, etc., etc. I love that movie! Best comedy since Prometheus is what it was.

On IMDB you can give a movie a 10 before it's even in theaters so it's not any impartial or useful metric. It's had problems with bots for years. At least Rotten Tomatoes new Verified Audience score requires you to actually see the damn movie first.

There's a reason studios use RT scores in promos but not IMDB lmao

Joker was at 9.5+ on IMdB with thousands of votes before the GA ever had the chance to see it. That's typical of DCEU movies.

In contrast, we can expect a deluge of 1-star votes for Episode 9 before it comes out because IMdB is the last place haters (and stans) can screw with audience ratings.

The digital release sliced off it's legs.  No matter, it's passed $857m and I'm petty so Mendelson being wrong again is what really matters.

But a $857 million finish is out of the question - Scott Mendelson

Mendelson doesn't seem to know much about making box office predictions. His predictions are almost always off the mark. One would think that in his years of blogging about box office numbers he would have learned a thing or two, but sadly that's not the case.

Not only is he making stupid predictions you can mock him for, but he's using adjusted numbers as if that means anything... it really is like so far as these publications are concerned ANYONE could do that job...

Anyone here could do Mendelson's job, and far better than he does. (Except for me. I'm just dabbling. :D)

Interesting to see how much TLK's run is mirroring BATB's domestically. Swinging higher on weekdays and lower on weekends. Presuming TLK has a 4x from a 38m weekend (BATB had 3.44x from its third weekend, will give the end of summer haziness the benefit of a doubt for TLK) it'll end up at 542m, just shy of BATB's multiplier (2.84x vs. 2.88x).

It's safe to say Disney's out of IP for remakes that can make these numbers again on their own. Little Mermaid is a possibility but I'd expect closer to Aladdin's final total (still ungodly).

Disney's inevitable live-action Frozen will rake in billions. They also have Tangled, The Incredibles and Wreck-It Ralph to adapt. Don't think that Alan Horn isn't doing preproduction on these as we speak.

does anyone seriously care about fucking sif

Of course. Sif is extremely popular in the comics and Jaime Alexander was perfect for the role. Unfortunately, the writing in the first two movies never tapped into Sif's true potential. Once Marvel hired Portman to play Jane, they weren't going to waste her by focusing on Thor's Asgardian lover. (Portman wasted herself, however.)

With Jane becoming the Mighty Thor, my hope is that Taika will bring Sif back. He's writing and will surely be able to give her the material she deserves. Something tells me that Valkyrie and Jane are gonna end up ruling Asgard together. It would be perfectly fitting if Thor and Sif soared off into the Nine Realms together, seeking to restore order to the realm.

Wow. That's nuts that some "adults" are that immature.

The funny thing about the situation is that the people trolling those forums were usually older women, although several were men who targeted us because most of the posters were female. They were soap opera forums, but soap fans are just as vicious flame-warriors as any other subset of fans. Maybe more so. There were death threats aimed at both fans and stars by unhinged people, over things as trivial as criticism of costumes or ships. One woman threatened an actress at a fan gathering for "stealing" the male half of her favorite couple. And that was par for the course.

It's surreal to know that some grandma posted that she was going to drive a thousand miles to shoot someone for calling Erica Kane a bitch on the Internet. One of my friends bought guns because the granny punishers posted his address and assured him that when he heard the shots it would be too late. Those women pioneered doxxing fifteen years ago. They had my address, too, from web hosting records, and some of them said they wanted me dead. That was some scary shit at times.

Admin of another forum hat: ON

While folks can try to mask "posting styles" for a while, overtime the "tells" rack up.  And while some folks are better at masking their "tells" more than others, sooner or later enough slips happen to be able to lay down the hammer.  IF folks are looking for various posting quirks, tics, and whatnot.

That's setting aside various tricks that Admins such as this place may or may not have at their disposal.

Admin of another forum hat: OFF

This is very true. It is all but impossible for a person to successfully hide all of their writing habits for a long period of time. The true style and persona always breaks through eventually, no matter how hard they try to disguise themselves. That is why most people who create alt accounts resort to using bad grammar and/or pretend that English is their second language. It seems like perfect cover to the troll, particularly if they are good writers.

  10. Maybe all of the Cameron 'stans were sock puppets of one person. Anyone thought of that?

Back when I ran my own forums, there were always a few protean posters who would switch between multiple identities to troll. A couple of them worked in large offices and would use their coworkers' computers to get around banning. One person worked for the Massachusetts state government and the other for a tech company in the Midwest. They were only persuaded to stop trolling when I tracked their IPs, posted logs of their troll posts and threatened to contact their employers' internet service providers/IT departments. The racism and constant explicit bestiality references called for drastic measures.

I think I'm allowed to both be happy for Endgame to hold the record AND think the re-issue was an unfortunate way to achieve the record that made them lose good faith. (which they have plenty of, so they can afford it, but still)

Even now I still find their decision on clawing at the #1 a bit puzzling. But they have the best marketing team, so they must know what they're doing.

What you're saying doesn't really make sense. Movies are reissued or have their theater counts increased all the time. It's standard industry practice when studios or exhibitors feel that there are more tickets to be sold and more money to be made. Avatar itself was reissued in 2010, after which it earned an additional $30 million. Do you also feel that Fox and Cameron acted in bad faith by putting their movie back in theaters, or is your scorn reserved for Disney and Feige?

There is not a damn thing wrong with Disney trying to get the all-time box office crown for its most popular franchise. Filmmaking is a business where art and commerce are inextricably linked. Naturally, money and bragging rights are a consideration for all involved. Pretending that there is something newly slimy or underhanded when it's actually business as usual is a bit disingenuous.

Very true. I don’t think the users who are diehard Avatar & James Cameron-fans, deserve to be banned. They don’t. And for someone to expect them to be kicked out....that’s just low sinking.

The so-called "Jim Gang" may not deserve to be outright banned from the forum, but they should be called out when they incessantly and needlessly bring Cameron into every single thread. They seem to enjoy antagonizing people but then turn around and play the victim when they get the negative reaction they were looking for.

It's sad when a handful of users make a forum tedious to read due to their obsessive trolling on one subject. And it is pathetic that they are so defensive of Cameron's box office records that they simply can't stop acting out.

HBO is expecting record ratings for tonight’s episode but I’m not sure that would affect too much guys. Come on.

I read that last week's GOT had 16 million households/accounts viewing. There are about 127 million households in the US. (No figures on Canada.) GOT's viewership is a drop in a very big bucket when it comes to the total US population.

It should also be noted that networks now count live + same day viewership as one number, much as studios count Thursday previews as part of the OD box office. So a certain percentage of the Sunday night viewers will watch the episode later than it is aired (up to 3 AM is same day).

Talkie! Great to see you here for this. I can’t even describe what is happening at the BO this weekend.

Hi, Walt! This is one for the ages, isn't it? Even though I believed that Endgame would make $280 million or more this weekend, the true numbers have left me in awe. Remember when the conventional wisdom held that a $300 million DOM OW wasn't possible (earlier this week)?
